Thanks to the Fans & the O's Xtra Crew
| | Comments (9)

Now that the 2009 season is complete, I wanted to take a moment to reflect and to thank the Orioles fans and the crew at O's Xtra.

For the past 6 months O's Xtra set the scene and recapped the action of the Orioles games. We were able to really get to know the Orioles players and get a glimpse of what we all hope will be a positive future on the field.

Dozens of hard working professionals allow us to push the envelope and strive to give the O's fans an entertaining product. Rick Dempsey and I are in the forefront, being on camera for the broadcasts, but it is the dedicated work of the crew that allows us have fun, and entertain the fans. It takes hours of planning and editing and producing to bring the shows to the fans each game.

When O's Xtra is televised from the ballpark picnic area, we enjoy the fans gathering around and showing their support for the team. Their enthusiasm in mugging for a chance to get on camera is a joy to watch and experience.

All of us at MASN believe we give the fans the best product of any regional sports network televising baseball in the country, but we are never satisfied. We are always looking to improve as we bring information on the Orioles to the fans. We are here for the fans and we never take that for granted.

So my heartfelt thanks to our studio crew. Coordinating Producer Lya Vallat. O's Xtra Producer Adam Martiyan and Director Michael Phillips.

And the heart and soul of the show, the O's Xtra crew. Kal Patel, Fred Genau, Andre Cormier, Jimmy Hunter, Mike Sormanti, Tyson Sapre, Brian "The Bear" Steedley, Nick Colley, Mary Miller, Zach Wilt, Jeff "Stat Boy" Satterfield, and Amanda Dunaja.

Enjoy the off season and let's keep in touch.

Thanks again for all the support.

Hello Jim, I have been an O's fan since i was in the first grade back in 1966. I enjoy watching you and Rick each evening when you do O's Xtra postgame. Jim, I think you are a play by play man . You and Jim Palmer should be doing the games. Tom Davis and Rick Dempsey/Dave Johnson should do the O's Xtra pre and post games full time. I think it should be hometown announcers doing the games and not "national" announcers. The Orioles did not have a great year, but i think next season will be much better. You are welcome for my continued support. Take care, Your Faithful Fan, Roland Klages

Jim,

Thank you and the MASN team for a great job of hanging in there and giving Baltimore a number one broadcast team. As I listen to other teams and now the playoffs, I am reminded again and again how lucky we are to have you and all the MASN broadcasters to listen to game after game. I don't believe the national broadcasters have any idea the difference between a ball and strike! Can't wait for next year and more Oriole baseball.

Enjoy your winter.

Nancy
Life-long Oriole fan since '54

Hey Jim. You guys do a great job on MASN. Certainly I'm very partial as an Oriole fan, but the on-air product is great. And with the team hopefully getting better, I would tend to believe that MASN itself will only get better. Incidentally, I owe you and your associates a big thank you. As a result of writing into this site among others, I found that I really enjoy the back-and-forth banter, and I started writing an unofficial blog on mlb.com. I was "discovered" by a new upstart website called Fan Huddle, and I was offered a position as an Oriole beat writer/blogger. Up until this season I had frequented a couple of message boards for my favorite teams (Redskins, O's, and Terps), but I had never really gotten into blogs or anything like that. Nevertheless, MASN and it's people have been very good to me in that regard, so a huge thank you goes out to all of you. Contractually I'm supposed to produce three articles per week, so I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to write about until spring training starts again. But I'll think of something, and if not I can always "re-visit" old columns!

Thanks, Jim! Pass our thanks and best wishes to your family, and to those in the extended MASN family as well.

Roland, Thanks for your kind comments.....I live my job with the Orioles and enjoy every moment bringing the information to the fans. Thanks very much for your continued support. Let's look forward to better results next season

Domenic,

congrats on being "discovered". Being able to cover a team you love is a bonus. Glad MASN was in some small part able to help......As for topics for your 3 articles per week go with your instinct. Whatever you have been talking about with your friends about the O's could be topics for articles. Just always back up your opinion with facts. It will make it more legitimate. Good luck and keep in touch

Thanks Nancy, I always enjoy hearing from the die hard O's fans. I also appreciate your comments on our broadcasts. We all work very hard to bring the fans the best baseball on TV we can. And those of us involved in the productions are fortunate to have an ownership and management that gives us what we need to bring the message to the fans. Hopefully before too long the O's will be back in contention and the O's fans will be rewarded for their support.....Thanks again for writing and keep in touch

Jim,

Love the post-game show. Your enthusiasm and precise analysis, along with Dempsey's knowledge and insight make for a great dynamic.

I've noticed that MASN is improving by leaps and bounds every year, and this steady progression and evolution of the network will be not only important for the Orioles, but for the Baltimore sports community as a whole. Ravens/Orioles/College/High School, there are a lot of opportunities for regional exposure on MASN.

I went to probably 32-35 games this year, and tried to make a frequent stop at the booth on the picnic area after the games. Your technical staff has always embraced this mutual opportunity to show support for the team. Stopping by is cool, and it really makes for a great nightcap. It often punctuates a great evening of fun with friends at the Yard.

Anyway, I want to wish you and the whole team a happy and healthy off season and New Year. I'm looking forward to opening day (going to get a season plan this year, hurrah)!

Hey Matt, thanks for the comments about MASN and the O's Xtra shows. I agree that each of the 3 seasons the shows have improved. But as I stated in the blog we are far from satisfied. We're already talking about ways to improve and expand the way we bring information about the O's to the fans. I'm glad to hear you have stopped by the set in the bullpen picnic area. Rick and I always enjoy talking with the fans after the shows. And congrats on deciding to buy a season ticket plan for 2010. Despite the finish to the season and the overall record things are looking up...Let's hope for an active and productive off season. Keep in touch.
