Examining the young pitchers and Waring
Monday: Who will play third base? | Tuesday: O's beginning play in Fall leagues | Wednesday: All about Jauss | Friday: Updating Kikuchi, Bell and Snyder | Saturday: Examining Arrieta
Thursday, October 15:
Steve Melewski asked Mike Griffin abotu Brad Bergesen, Chris Tillman, David Hernandez and Jason Berken: "Griffin has a track record of developing Major League pitchers. While in the Boston organization he worked with the likes of Jon Lester, Jonathan Papelbon, Manny Delcarmen and Clay Buchholz.
He said the Orioles' foursome he worked with the last two seasons, compares quite well to that Boston group.
"This group right here is ahead of that (Boston) group. Because they are learning faster. They are getting the things they need to get done quicker. That's why they are in the Majors quicker."
So can the O's foursome turn out to be as good in the Majors as those Boston hurlers?
"Probably, I sure as heck hope so. Let's put it this way, they're in position to do it. Now it's up to them at this level to take the work ethic, apply it, get Kranny's help and use it up here."" [masnsports.com]
Dean Jones Jr. looks at the performance of Brandon Waring in the Arizona Fall League: "Designated hitter Brandon Waring was 1-for-5 with a solo home run in the Desert Dogs' 4-2 victory over the Mesa Solar Sox.
The 23-year-old infielder hit the homer to break a 2-2 tie with one out in the sixth inning against Solar Sox relief pitcher James Russell, a prospect for the Chicago Cubs, but he also struck out three times." [Baltimore Sun]

I lived in Boston when Griffin was with Pawtucket, now I've relocated to DC and have gone to Bowie games when he was there and seen him work and the results he got. People in Pawtucket talked about how the year after Griffin was moved up to Pawtucket (2004) the Red Sox won the World Series for the 1st time in 86 years, then again in 2007 before he left there. Maybe the guy not only has the coaching skills, but will be the lucky charm for Baltimore next!
