Friday, October 16:
Roch Kubatko writes on Yusei Kikuchi: "Getting back to Japanese high school left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, I know it's being reported that seven major league clubs are meeting with him, and the Red Sox have interest, but it's worth noting that Japanese teams also are scouting him. If he's drafted, he'll likely pitch for that club.
There's an unwritten rule of sorts that major league teams back off in these situations to avoid creating any bad blood. Kikuchi would have to declare that he doesn't want to be drafted, and hope his wish is granted.
I'm hearing that 15-20 major league clubs have interest in Kikuchi, but only three or four are serious players for him. You can put the Red Sox in that group, but they're not regarded as the frontrunners." [masnsports.com]
Dean Jones Jr. examines Josh Bell and Brandon Snyder: "Third baseman Josh Bell was 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in the Desert Dogs' 9-4 victory over Scottsdale.
The 22-year-old infielder also walked twice in the game.
First baseman Brandon Snyder was 1-for-5 with an RBI, and center fielder Matt Angle was 0-for-3 with three walks, two stolen bases and a run scored." [Baltimore Sun]
