More kicker tryouts
| | Comments (6)

A few weeks ago, when kicker Steve Hauschka was dealing with an ankle injury, the Ravens reportedly tried out free agents Mike Nugent and Connor Barth.

Now, with Hauschka having missed two key fourth quarter kicks in the last three games, the Ravens are going through another round of kicker tryouts.

According to multiple reports, Nugent and Billy Cundiff were in Owings Mills today, working out for team officials. Neither have been signed at this point.

Nugent spent four seasons with the Jets and started this year with the Buccaneers before being cut after making just 2-of-6 kicks.

Cundiff was with the Cowboys for four seasons, then played with the Saints in 2006. He resurfaced with the Browns this year, but was released last week after just five games with Cleveland. Cundiff was a perfect 6-of-6 this year, but his long was just 31 yards.

Hauschka is 8-of-11 this season with a long of 44 yards, but he missed a potential game-winning 44-yarder in Week 6 against Minnesota, and he also hooked a 38-yard try wide left on Sunday against the Bengals.

That kick would've left the Ravens trailing by just seven mid-way through the fourth quarter.

how about the other kicker that was with the ravens durning training camp and pre season, if they are brining in kickers will he get another look?
-------
Josh,
You're talking about Graham Gano, who is currently playing in the UFL. If the Ravens are going to bring in another kicker, it'll almost surely be a veteran; they've seen how things can backfire when you try and go with a young, unproven guy.

Hey Dan:

20 years ago in high school I was the kicker and I was pretty good, my long was 51. Think the Ravens have any intrest in me? :)

But overall what kicker has impressed the Ravens? Is Nugent a good kicker?
-------
Richard,
Hey, give them a call over at The Castle. Maybe you can earn yourself a tryout as well. From what I've heard, Nugent has impressed the Ravens in his two auditions. He was a decent kicker for the Jets and could be a nice replacement should the Ravens choose to go that route. It looks like they'll give Hauschka one more shot, however.

Regardless of all the people to point fingers at in both the Min and Cinci games if Hauschka makes those kicks we are at a min 5-3. Mabye even 6-2. The miss in Cinci was a momentum killer. We could end up not making the playoffs because a pro kicker couldn't do what he should be practicing 5 hours a day. Frustrating....

How old is Cundiff? His numbers look better...
--------
Christopher,
Cundiff is 29. He was decent while with the Cowboys, but the fact that he was without an NFL team for two full years shows that he might not be the answer. He does have experience, however, something that Hauschka lacks.

So what happened to the guy who won the Lou Groza Award and garnered All-America honors during his senior season. Who was considered to be one of the best kicker prospects available in the 2009 NFL Draft?
Oh, he was signed by the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League after being cut by the Ravens. He has the notoriety of earning the first points for the league after converting a 32-yard field goal, and also currently the longest UFL field goal at 53 yards.
Whodat?
Graham Gano remember him?

Meanwhile the roster is littered with guys who make almost no contributions. Certainly those bums ( walker, Copusins etc) are more important than Stover. Ozzie and Harbaugh have really made some terrible decisions lately. But, Ozzie is above criticism, so please don't tell anyone.

Yes the Ravens are off the tracks a bit. One week awesome next week AWFULL!!!!!!!++++++++++++++ It is obvious the guys in charge made some dumb a$$ decisions about Stover and the 2 new cover guys siggghhhh!!! And I see cracks starting to appear in our savior Harbaugh as he starts with the tense media sessions with the "I ain't even gonna go there" forearm checks more and more as it's becoming obvious they screwed up a few times with Stover, covers, Mattison etc. And what in the hell did we pay UMM what's his name $63 million for? He he even gotten a sack since he signed that contract?? Sucks er SUGGS yeah that his name, I think?! Been so long since I heard it called during a game, unles for a penalty! SIGGGGHHH!! They starting to play like the Orioles - YIIIKKKEESS!! No playoofs this year folks, Steelers and Manning will laugh this bunch off the field. We can't cover and we can't rush - whatcha think Manning is gonna do with that?? SIGGGHH!!
