Rough day for Perrault
| | Comments (13)

Orioles farmhand Josh Perrault served up a two-run homer to White Sox prospect C.J. Retherford in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving Peoria Javelinas a 5-4 win over the Phoenix Desert Dogs in the AFL championship game.

The Desert Dogs had won five straight titles before today.

Perrault was charged with two runs and three hits. He also struck out two.

Matt Angle, leading off and playing center field, was 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored. Third baseman Josh Bell, batting sixth, went 0-for-4.

Oakland outfield prospect Grant Desme, who led the AFL with 11 homers and went deep again today, was named league MVP. None of the Orioles' minor leaguers received a vote.

Too bad for JP, but it's good to see some of these guys get a chance to play and learn a few things. Hopefully that will carry over into ST and eventually the ML roster.

Only disappointing thing form Bruce concert...
During first song Wrecking ball he didn't make reference to the iron man. Usually he puts in a famous athlete depending on where he plays like for Phily he said where Dr. J played the games.

I was raised out of steel here in the swamps of Jersey, some misty years ago
Through the mud and the beer, and the blood and the cheers, I've seen champions come and go
So if you got the guts mister, yeah if you've got the balls
If you think it's your time, then step to the line, and bring on your wrecking ball

Bring on your wrecking ball
Bring on your wrecking ball
Come on and take your best shot, let me see what you've got
Bring on your wrecking ball
Bring on your wrecking ball
Bring on your wrecking ball
Come on and take your best shot, let me see what you've got
Bring on your wrecking ball

Now my home is here in the Meadowlands, where mosquitoes grow big as airplanes
Here where the blood is spilled, the arena's filled, and Giants play the game
So raise up your glasses and let me hear your voices call
Come on!
Because tonight all the dead are here, so bring on your wrecking ball

Bring on your wrecking ball
Bring on your wrecking ball
Take your best shot, let me see what you've got
Bring on your wrecking ball

One, two, one two three four!

[trumpet solo]

Yeah we know that come tomorrow, none of this will be here
So hold tight on your anger
Hold tight on your anger
Hold tight to your anger, and don't fall to your fear

Now when all this steel and these stories, they drift away to rust
And all our youth and beauty, it's been given to the dust
And your game has been decided, and you're burning the clock down
And all our little victories and glories, have turned into parking lots
When your best hopes and desires, are scattered through the wind
And hard times come, hard times go
Hard times come, hard times go
And hard times come, hard times go
Hard times come, hard times go
Hard times come, hard times go
Yeah just to come again

Bring on your wrecking ball
Bring on your wrecking ball
Come on and take your best shot, let me see what you've got
Bring on your wrecking ball
Bring on your wrecking ball (bring on your wrecking ball)
Bring on your wrecking ball (bring on your wrecking ball)
Take your best shot, let me see what you've got, bring on your wrecking ball

One, two, one two three four!

This was from Keith Law's chat yesterday, glad to see Bell do so well in the AFL. He really was a doubles machine and I hope he does well in ST.

Would it make any sense for the Orioles to offer Lackey a four-year deal in hopes that he can still be the 'ace' of the young rotation around 2011/2012? Also, why would they want to pursue Chone Figgins or Uggla if Josh Bell will be ready in a year or two?

I could buy them signing Lackey on the thought/hope that they'll be contending in those two years, but it's probably still premature. And I don't think they'll acquire either of those bats. Bell's pretty good, chance to be a star.

Roch,
I know it's been awhile, I apologize. Graduate school at North Carolina will keep anyone busy. Doesn't mean I'm not reading the blog everyday and following my beloved O's. Read on ESPN today the Marlins have reached a stalemate in long term contract talks with Josh Johnson, which could potentially make him a free agent in 2011.
Any possibility Andy would look into this situation and try to make a trade for Johnson? In my opinion he could definitely fill the roll of our #1 for years to come and we'd have very strong young duo with him and Matusz. Could you possibly see this happening, and if so, what package would the O's have to ship to make it a possibility? Maybe a package of Hernandez, Arrieta and Erbe? What are your thoughts?

I understand. The studies come first. But glad you're still reading. I'm sure MacPhail would love to have Johnson, but he'd have to part with the young pitching that he wants to keep. - Roch

I only saw his first 2 at bats - but Matt Angle was fun to watch. Cruising in for a triple - then laying down a perfect drag bunt for a hit. I know it doesn't seem like we need outfielders - but if you don't like his style - you don't like baseball...

James said:

I dont see Bell being ready in 2010.

Roch-
Is there anyway you could find out if its true that Daric Barton was left unprotected? I can find Oaklands updated 40 man.
Thats pretty amazing if its a fact.

Off topic here, did you get the name of the guy they signed in the DR ? You mentioned it in an interview with Stockstill some days ago. Inquiring minds want to know. Sorry if you answered this already, but I couldn't find it.

Your hearing should be getting better by now shoudn't it ? We saw Kevin Costner with his band "Modern West" a couple of weeks ago in Mannheim. He
reminds me of Springsteen a little.

I know Melewski is in the process of trying to gather names of some guys they've signed. I'm sure it'll be a name we haven't heard. A young kid from the D.R. - Roch

To say he had a rough day is an understatement. That stuff he was dishing up there yesterday will land him squarely back at Bowie.

Hope this diminishes any interest in the rule 5 draft.

Hey Roch,
I heard the Boss' concert was one for the ages. Glad you had a good time. You deserve some R&R with all the hard work you do here. Have you heard any updates on Pie's injury? I know he was supposed to play in the Dominican League over the winter but it doesn't look like he's active on anyone's roster. Was just wondering if he's still hurting or just taking some time off? Or is this a question for Steve?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll ask about him and let you know. - Roch

Hey Roch,
Do you know how Andy McPhail feels about giving out incentive-laden contracts to injury prone players (e.g. Carlos Delgado, Erik Bedard)? I can't remember too many examples of the O's signing players this way in recent years. I'm sure players prefer the guaranteed money but if you make the incentives valuable enough the right guy might go for it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't discussed it with him, but any contract for Bedard would most likely include incentives. - Roch

@Ryan
If Daric Barton was taken off the A's 40 man he would have to be placed on waivers...I would bet he would be claimed, and it would've been on the wire by now
