Stats that tell the tale in the Ravens' 17-7 loss
| | Comments (4)

Not much went right for the Ravens today, and it shows by looking at the box score.

Baltimore got physically dominated from the very start, and the 17-7 final score makes this game seem a lot closer than it really was.

Here are a few stats that show how the Bengals were able pick up the W:

Time of Possession
Ravens: 20:00
Bengals: 40:00

Third Down Efficiency
Ravens: 1-of-10, 10%
Bengals: 8-of-18, 44%

Total Yards
Ravens: 215
Bengals: 369

Rushing Yards
Ravens: 55
Bengals: 146

Total Offensive Plays
Ravens: 53
Bengals: 73

Penalties
Ravens: 7, 80 yards
Bengals: 6, 40 yards

I could go on, but I figure that should get the point across.

The Ravens simply got outplayed by a Bengals team that continues to get overlooked by many in the media (myself included). We can rip on the play of the Baltimore defense, wide receivers and kicker all we want, and we will over the next handful of days, but Cincinnati earned this one.

In the two games between these teams, the Bengals have held the Ravens' offense to an average of 10.5 points. In Baltimore's six other games, they've averaged 30.8 points.

That's domination, folks.

Maybe the only good news that can be taken out of this game is that the Ravens won't face Cincinnati again this season.

That is, of course, unless these two teams square off in the playoffs.

Since next week is nationally televised on ESPN Monday night, do you see Webb as the starting CB? I would hate to see Foxworth & Friends get embarrassed, atleast Webb actually tries and does something.

Also do you still see Wshington and Foxworth starting next year? They are getting burnt worst than my wifes cooking.

Richard,
Sorry about that cooking. Washington is a free agent at year's end, and I wouldn't be shocked if he went elsewhere. Foxworth is here to stay. As for Webb, I'd like to give him a shot, but as you mentioned, a nationally-televised Monday night game might not be the best time to give the rookie his first NFL start.

I remember when Marchibroda was first here, and the Sun used to bash the hell out of the Ravens.
I always said, if the Raven's ever get good, I wouldn't let the Sun within 50 feet of the players.
But, everything was forgotten, the Ravens won the SB and all was well.

This season is a total wasted opportunity, and it is TOTALLY the front offices fault.
They KNEW they needed a reciever. The better defenses, when they play up totally baffle this offense because we don't have that 1 guy that opens it up a little. They could have had about 5 of them and they blew it.
There was NO WAY I anyone would have been content with the secondary this team has.
And Haushka is a total bumb. Some guys just don't have the mental stability to kick in the NFL. I blame Harbs for the last one there.

The bengals can't even sell out their stadium despite being in 1st place.
The Ravens fans are among the best in the NFL and I am SOOOO scared that our front office has fallen into that "we know best" hard-headed outlook.
EVERY problem this team has could have been handled in the preseason and they totally blew it.

I don't care what ANYONE says about this front office. WHAT HAVE THEY DONE when you really look at it. They got very very lucky and ran into some teams at the right time last year and got to the AFC championship. Great.
They still couldn't beat the good ones.

This defense is getting old, and they put NO MONEY into the offense or skill positions. You just can NOT win like that.

Early prediction for Browns-Ravens Monday night game.

Things don't bold well from here on out. The confidence and motivastion took a big it this week. Since I have been wrong on picking that Ravens to win 4/5 weeks now I need to change my tune. I say we come out flat next Monday and the Browns take this one 20-17. Then we lose the next 2 games to Indy and Pit to drop to 4-7. At least we will be set up for a good draft pick.
