College Football Bowl Preview Week 3
Monday, December 28:
Independence Bowl, Shreveport, LA:
The Independence Bowl will feature teams from the Big 12 and SEC. Representing the Big 12 is Texas A&M (6-6, 3-5 Big 12) who struggled on defense all season. From the SEC will be Georgia (7-5, 4-4 SEC), a team that has had an up and down season. This game can be seen Monday, Dec. 28 at 5:00 p.m. on ESPN 2. For more information on this game click here.
Tuesday, December 29:
Eagle Bank Bowl, Washington, D.C.:
The UCLA Bruins (6-6, 3-6 Pac-10) had a strong start and finish to their regular season and will look to end their season on a winning note. Champs Sports Bowl, Orlando, FL:
This traditional ACC-Big Ten matchup will feature two nine wins. No. 14 Miami (FL) (9-3, 5-3 ACC) is coming off of a solid season that has represented a resurgence for its program which has been down the last few years. No. 24 Wisconsin (9-3, 5-3 Big Ten) has had a good season finishing fourth in the Big Ten. This game will be seen Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN. For more information on this game click here.
Wednesday, December 30:
Roady's Humanitarian Bowl, Boise, ID:
The Humanitarian Bowl matches two teams from smaller conferences. Bowling Green (7-5, 6-2 MAC) will travel in to hostile territory after finishing third in their division in MAC play. Idaho (7-5, 4-4 WAC) will play what amounts to a home game and will look to snap a three game losing streak. This game can be viewed Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN. Pacific Life Holiday Bowl, San Diego, CA:
Two ranked teams from power conferences will face each other in this traditionally high-scoring affair. No. 22 Arizona (8-4, 6-3 Pac-10) had one of their better seasons in recent memory and wants to finish the season in a three-game win streak. No. 20 Nebraska (9-4, 6-2 Big 12) was one second away from a BCS berth before falling to No. 2 Texas in the Big 12 Championship. This game will be shown Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN. Thursday, December 31:
Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, Fort Worth, TX:
The Houston Cougars (10-3, 6-2 C-USA) played for the Conference USA title and a chance at the Liberty Bowl, but fell short against East Carolina. Air Force (7-5, 5-3 Mountain West) ended up in fourth in the Mountain West after having a solid all-around season. Brut Sun Bowl, El Paso, TX:
The Sun Bowl is another bowl featuring teams from BCS conferences. The Oklahoma Sooners (7-5, 5-3 Big 12) had a down year by their standards after losing Sam Bradford to injury. No. 19 Stanford (8-4. 6-3 Pac-10) is led by former Heisman candidate Toby Gerhart will go for their ninth win. Texas Bowl, Houston TX:
Navy (9-4) will take its potent rushing attack to a bowl against a BCS conference opponent. The Missouri Tigers (8-4, 4-4 Big 12) used a very good passing attack to finish in second in the North division of the Big 12. This game can be seen Thursday, Dec. 30, at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN. Insight Bowl, Tempe, AZ:
The Insight Bowl matches up teams from the Big Ten and Big 12. The Minnesota Golden Gophers (6-6, 3-5 Big Ten) have been fueled by their defense this season. The Iowa State Cyclones (6-6, 3-5 Big 12) will be in a bowl game after losing 10 games last season. The NFL Network will show this game at 6:00 p.m. on Dec. 31. Chick-fil-A Bowl, Atlanta, GA:
The ACC and SEC will match two of their better teams in the Georgia Dome for the Chick-fil-A Bowl. No. 12 Virginia Tech (9-3, 6-2 ACC) were solid this season on both sides of the ball and will try to end their season on a five game winning streak. Tennessee (7-5, 4-4 SEC) is a team that has a tough defense and is trying for their third straight win. This game will be shown at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31 on ESPN. Friday, January 1:
Outback Bowl, Tampa, FL:
The Outback Bowl pits two teams going in positive directions. Northwestern (8-4, 5-3 Big Ten) is a hot football team coming off of two upset victories in their last three regular season games. Auburn (7-5, 3-5 SEC) bounced back from a disappointing 2008 season to qualify for a bowl game. This game will be shown Friday, Jan 1. At 11:00 a.m. on ESPN. For more on this game click here.
Konica Minolta Gator Bowl, Jacksonville, FL:
Friday afternoon's Gator Bowl will feature the Big East and ACC. No. 18 West Virginia (9-3, 5-2 Big East) has been a very good defensive team this season and has been supported by a solid running game. Florida State (6-6, 4-4 ACC) will say farewell to long-time coach Bobby Bowden and try to send him out with a win. Capital One Bowl, Orlando, FL:
The Capital One Bowl features two Top 20 teams trying to end their seasons on a high note. No. 11 Penn State (10-2, 6-2 Big Ten) has a very good defense and an above average offense. No. 13 LSU (9-3, 5-3 SEC) is a very formidable opponent trying to end their season with a two consecutive win. This game will be shown Friday, Jan. 1, at 1:00 p.m. on ABC. Rose Bowl Game Presented By Citi, Pasadena, CA:
The Rose Bowl features the traditional Big Ten-Pac 10 matchup. This year it will feature two Top 10 squads. No. 8 Ohio State (10-2, 7-1 Big Ten) rode their defense to a Big Ten championship and to earn their BCS berth. No. 7 Oregon (10-2, 8-1 Pac-10) has used a high-powered offense to get to earn the Pac-10's Rose Bowl berth. This game can be seen Friday, Jan. 1, at 4:30 p.m. on ABC. Allstate Sugar Bowl, New Orleans, LA:
The Sugar Bowl features two teams that have been powerhouses all season long. No. 5 Florida (12-1, 8-0 SEC) was stopped just short of their bid to repeat as national champions in the SEC Championship game. No. 4 Cincinnati (12-0, 7-0 Big East) came up just short of the national championship after having a great season. This game will be shown Friday, Jan. 1, at 8:30 p.m. on Fox. Saturday, January 2:
International Bowl, Toronto, ON:
South Florida (7-5, 3-4 Big East) will travel north of the border with their stellar defense to try and get a bowl win for their conference. Northern Illinois (7-5, 5-3 MAC) finished second in their division in the MAC after being propelled by a balanced attack and will look to snap their two game losing streak. Papa John's.com Bowl, Birmingham, AL:
The Papa John's.com bowl will pit schools from the SEC and Big East against each other. South Carolina (7-5, 3-5 SEC) earned a bowl berth with a strong defense. Connecticut (7-5, 3-4 Big East) used a fairly high-scoring offense to lead them to their bowl berth. This game can be seen at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2, on ESPN. AT&T Cotton Bowl, Arlington, TX:
In another traditional matchup, the Cotton Bowl will feature schools from the Big 12 and SEC. No. 21 Oklahoma State (9-3, 6-2 Big 12) will take their offense and try to end their season on a winning note. Mississippi (8-4, 4-4 SEC) is also trying to end their season with a win after falling to their in-state rival in the season finale. This game will be shown Saturday, Jan. 2, at 2:00 p.m. on Fox. AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Memphis, TN:
The Liberty will feature a conference champion and a solid SEC squad. East Carolina (9-4, 7-1 C-USA) earned their bowl berth by winning getting Conference USA's automatic bid with a conference championship. Valero Alamo Bowl, San Antonio, TX:
The Alamo Bowl will be another bowl that features the Big Ten and Big 12. Michigan State (6-6, 4-4, Big Ten) has been led by their offense all season. Texas Tech (8-4, 5-3 Big 12) has also had a prolific offense this season to help them earn their Alamo Bowl berth.This game will be shown Saturday, Jan. 2 at 9:00 p.m. on ESPN.
