MASN to Televise FCS Playoffs on Saturday
| | Comments (4)

MASN, the local leader in live sports entertainment, will televise the Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs on Saturday, December 5th. The Division 1-AA Quarterfinals will include a noon game between William & Mary and Southern Illinois and an evening matchup between Appalachian State and Richmond at 7 p.m. Both games will be carried live on MASN.

In his 30th season with William & Mary, head coach Jimmye Laycock leads the 6th ranked Tribe into the quarterfinals for the first time since 2004. It will be the first meeting between the Tribe and second ranked Southern Illinois with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 p.m. from McAndrew Stadium.

In Richmond, familiar foes Appalachian State and Richmond meet again in a rematch of last year's quarterfinals. Led by head coach Mike London, the now 4th ranked Richmond Spiders won last year's game against Appalachian State before claiming the NCAA national title.

With 20 year head coach Jerry Moore at the helm, the 5th ranked Mountaineers look to take back the championship they won for three consecutive years before last year's game against Richmond.

"We are thrilled that MASN is televising CAA football teams participating in the NCAA playoffs allowing students, parents, alumni and fans the opportunity to watch their teams compete during the most exciting time of the year as they play for the National Championship," said CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager.

"MASN's decision to carry the Mountaineers' important playoff game this weekend is great for our fans and for our conference," said Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino.

"The FCS Playoffs are a great conclusion to MASN's 2009 college football schedule, which included nearly 50 NCAA games," said MASN spokesman Todd Webster. "Featuring these three exciting regional teams as they compete in the playoffs illustrates MASN's continued commitment to live, local sports."

The official cable network of Georgetown University, George Mason University, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, the Big South Conference and the BB&T Classic, MASN features hundreds of NCAA football and basketball games in at least 13 different conferences each season. MASN is also home to the Big East Game of the Week in college football and basketball and the best coach's and magazine shows throughout the region.
