Some news and notes
I'm not sure if Ravens fans will ever be more pro-Colts than tonight.
Tonight's match-up between Indy and Jacksonville is crucial to the Ravens' playoff hopes, with the Jaguars currently having the tiebreaker advantage over Baltimore for the final Wild Card spot in the AFC.
The Charm City faithful usually love to hate on Peyton Manning and company, but that group can go a long way to putting the Ravens in good postseason shape with a win tonight.
You can bet Ravens players and coaches will be watching the Thursday night battle, but I have yet to hear anyone come out in full support of the Colts. Everyone around The Castle seems to share the mindset that if they take care of their own business and win out, things will fall into place regardless of what happens tonight.
"Quite honestly, we control our own destiny," running back Ray Rice said. "Jacksonville and everybody else... If we do what we have to do, I think we'll be fine at the end of the day."
When the Ravens take the field three days from now, they'll have a familiar face watching over them from the broadcast booth - longtime head coach Brian Billick.
Billick, who coached the Ravens for nine seasons before being fired after the 2007 campaign, will be returning to M&T Bank Stadium as a color commentator for the Fox broadcast of the game.
Billick's return is something that current head coach John Harbaugh said he's excited about. The two have had a chance to talk many times because of Billick's "CoachSpeak" show on FoxSports.com, and Harbaugh said that Billick even came back to Ravens headquarters to tape the show one week.
"We've had some great conversations," Harbaugh said. "We have a great relationship with Brian, Brian has a great relationship with the Ravens, and it'll be, I think, a fun part of the whole deal."
Linebacker Ray Lewis, who played under Billick for all of the coach's nine seasons in Baltimore, didn't exactly seem as pumped for the reunion this weekend.
"I didn't even know [anything] about it," Lewis said. "Bottom line, I'm not playing against [Billick]. It [doesn't] matter who's commentating the game. Bottom line is we're getting prepared to play the Chicago Bears."
The game against the Bears will be the final home contest of the 2009 season, and according to The Baltimore Sun's Jamison Hensley, the Ravens have decided to wear their popular black alternate jerseys this Sunday.
The last time the Ravens sported the black unis was against in the Sunday night game against the Redskins last December.
In all likelihood, even if the Ravens make a deep playoff push, they will not host a postseason game at M&T Bank Stadium.
The Ravens are 11-4 the last two seasons when playing at home, a place that Harbaugh and his players said they really enjoy.
"It's a special thing playing in this stadium," Harbaugh said. "We have a really tremendous home team advantage every time we play because of our crowd. Our crowd is into the game, to the extent that they want to help the Ravens win. That's what I've noticed over the last 15, going on 16, regular season home games now.
"These Baltimore fans care, and they want to do everything they can to help their team win. And we need that kind of performance out of them on Sunday as well."
