Curb your enthusiasm Caps fans

Alright, I'm pumped up about the Caps' 6-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins last night at The Igloo, and for good reason.
The Caps are 8-2 in their last 10 games, lead the Eastern Conference with 70 points, and are making a mockery of the Southeast Division, which they now lead by 19 points. But I'm not ready to anoint the Washington Capitals as your next Stanley Cup Champions.
I still remember the sting of the Game 7 loss to Pittsburgh in the Eastern Conference Playoffs last season. Prior to the start of that game at Verizon Center, I was ready to grow my gnarly playoff beard for at least another two weeks; by the midway point of the second period, after staring in shock and disbelief at the 5-0 Penguins' lead, I broke out the Gillette Fusion and did away with the facial hair. The Caps' playoff run was suddenly over, and the Pens advanced and wound up winning the Stanley Cup; I would have been happier if China had invaded the United States and thrown me into an internment camp.
Look, it's ok to get excited about the Capitals, and there is plenty to get excited about. They look poised to make a deep playoff run. But I'm not going to enrage Caps Nation by picking them to hoist the Stanley Cup. We all know what happens then - they get bounced by the Islanders in the first round and I get a Molotov cocktail thrown through a window of my house. No thank you.
Let's watch the Caps handle their business over the next few months, let Semyon Varlamov get his knee right, and pray that none of the Caps participating in the Olympics in Vancouver suffers an injury. I've endured a lifetime of disappointment rooting for the Caps, attending games back at the Capital Centre in the late 70s with my dad, when fans were still allowed to smoke cigarettes INSIDE the arena. I want the Caps to finally win the Stanley Cup more than the next guy, but I think it's a bit premature to start predicting the deep playoff run in late January.

It's time for Ovie to rise up to prove that he's head and shoulders above the rest and the D continuing to stand up.
Maybe this year during the playoff run instead of growing a beard, grow a full head of hair...rogaine donk.
I sure hope your right Roy Indiana.
True the season means nothing if we dont get to the finals.. I dont even care if we dont win the Cup but a POW trophy would be nice. Im all but sure we're gonna get to the finals especially the way we've run over everybody. but who we play in the finals is what matters. If its Chicago we got a decent chance. If its SJ were better then 50% to lose it.
