Super Bowl predictions? Leave them here
| | Comments (3)

Hey everybody--don't have any Nats news for you this afternoon, and I don't expect there to be any, because the sports world is focused on other things. So I'm writing for another reason: I'm curious to hear your Super Bowl predictions. And I'm not just talking about the score.

Any stabs at The Who's halftime set list? Over/under on the number of times we see Peyton Manning in commercials? MVP guesses? Will either of these teams run for more than 100 yards?

Consider this your spot to leave your own predictions and prop bets, though I can't put up any money for you. I'm just curious to hear how everybody's leaning on this game.

I'm rooting for the Saints--I'm an NFC guy, I'm grateful to them for exposing Brett Favre in the playoffs (once again), and I'm hoping New Orleans will get to celebrate a championship. But my guess is they won't be able to stop Manning for four quarters, unless they can confuse him with coverages (which I think will work better than bringing a ton of pressure). So I'm calling it Colts 34, Saints 28 in an entertaining game.

And for the record: "Baba O'Riley"/"Pinball Wizard"/"My Generation"/"Won't Get Fooled Again," and Manning shows up a half-dozen times in commercials.

I just saw this. I don't do predictions, but I was rooting for the Saints all the way. New Orleans is such a unique and beautiful city, and after all the region has gone through I was compelled to root for them. We drank our morning coffee from Cafe du Monde cups in their honor.

Also, again without having read this, before the game started, I asked my husband for his half-time show prediction. We only picked one song each, but mine was "Pinball Wizard" (him: Nah, they won't do that one; me: Would you care to make it interesting?; him: No, I wouldn't. And do you have cabin fever or what?). His pick was "My Generation." When they opened with my pick, I turned to him and laughed (and I was *really* wishing that I'd pushed to clinch the bet). ;-)

We both thought that the commercials were blah for the most part, although some were kinda funny. I think I liked the Brett Favre one best. I'm not a fan, but I had to give him props for making fun of himself (at least, I *think* he was making fun of himself).

Agree with you on the commercials--I'll also give Favre some credit for making fun of himself (although, like you said, you can never tell for sure). I used to think his whole country bumpkin thing was authentic; now I think he plays stupid because it gives him an air of deniability when stuff happens, and it makes him more marketable. I've heard a few people that know Favre say over the years that you shouldn't buy the hillbilly act for one minute; he and his agent are a lot smarter than they look. Except, you know, in the fourth quarter of big games. :-)

Anyway, thought the game was OK, thought The Who were OK--though I did a pretty good job on the set list. I was hoping for some instrument destruction at the end, but the way they kind of just stood there was disappointing. It was almost like they were saying, "Is that it? Are we done?" But the stage was very cool.

I also enjoyed a few of the Doritos commercials, particularly the one with the dog who put the shock collar on his owner.

And one song each? You could've made it much more interesting (read: susceptible to your husband getting crushed) if you'd picked more! Although it sounds like he wasn't too interested. Maybe next year during the Eric Clapton halftime show (and if they're continuing to go with geezers, that'd be one I'd love to see).

We missed a bit of the first quarter, so I didn't see that particular commercial. We were watching a local weather segment, if memory serves (it's another blizzard - head for the hills!!!). We enjoyed some of the Doritos commercials as well.

The stage was definitely cool. As for the set, agree that I could have picked more songs for greater crush, uh, challenge potential. You did well with your picks. Clapton would be a good pick if they continue the geezer trend. :-)
