Byron Kerr talked to Jim Riggleman about Adam Kennedy: "Adam is a professional hitter," Riggleman said. "He is a talented player. Adam can do a little of everything. He can hit. He can run the bases. He can play second very well. He is an all around player and will make a nice addition to our ballclub." [masnsports.com]
Chico Harlan asked Jim Riggleman about Adam Kennedy: "Well, I feel good about Adam Kennedy. I feel like another left-handed bat in the lineup will help, whether that would have been [Orlando] Hudson or Kennedy. Hudson was a switch-hitter, I know. But the thing about Adam Kennedy: He's a pro. He's not a spectacular player, but he doesn't have any weaknesses. He won't hit 30 homers, he won't steal 30 bases, but he's what I like. Good hands, good second baseman, a good hitter. He'll make all the right plays. And he's a nice addition to what we already have there, guys with experience who are just real pros." [Washington Post]
Alden Gonzalez reports on another Nats' signing: "After picking up a new second baseman in Adam Kennedy on Friday, the Nationals have also signed veteran left-hander Shawn Estes to a Minor League contract, according to The Associated Press.
Estes, who didn't pitch in the big leagues last season, will get $600,000 plus a possible $400,000 in performance bonuses if he's added to the club's 40-man roster, The AP added." [MLB.com]
Fire Jim Bowden examines Adam Kennedy: "This is a good value signing. The Fangraphs system (which isn't gospel, but is a solid benchmark) estimated Kennedy's value in 2009 at 1.7 wins above replacement and $7.2 million last season, and so even with a normal decline in productivity for his age, he should provide $1.5 million or more, barring injury."
