Where does Detwiler fit in the rotation?
Monday: Weighing in on Estes | Wednesday: Wang update | Thursday: Nats sign Dukes, more on Wang | Friday: Expectations high for Nats in 2010 | Saturday: Kennedy official; some on Willingham | Sunday: A little more on Benson
Tuesday, February 9:
Ben Goessling projects where Ross Detwiler fits in the rotation: "He's in the rotation if: He continues to pitch the way he did last September. Detwiler has struggled with his mechanics and been through a couple of overhauls since the Nationals took him with the sixth pick in 2007. But he seemed to find a groove last fall, throwing an effective two-seam fastball that got him 13 ground-ball outs in his first big-league win against the Mets. Detwiler's got solid velocity on his fastball, but not the kind that will help him miss bats consistently. He's another pitch-to-contact guy, which the Nationals like, and he'll only need to replicate what he was doing last fall to start this year in the majors.
Where he ends up: As the No. 5 starter in Washington's rotation. Detwiler seems ready to make the jump, and the guess here is he gets that chance." [masnsports.com]
R.J. Anderson examines Nyjer Morgan's defense: "Whether you're a fan of numbers, a casual observer or both, there's no doubt Morgan is magnificent with the leather. After some brutally tough seasons, Nationals fans have found hope in phenom pitching prospect Stephen Strasburg, but they should not overlook another terrific player who has arrived in their town.
Nyjer Morgan, Tony Plush, no matter what you call him, he's a defensive wizard beyond compare." [ESPN.com (Insider Only)]
Stan McNeal writes on the Nationals World Series drought: "Like the Padres, this club joined the NL in '69. Unlike the Padres, the Nationals/Expos have never reached the World Series. They have made the playoffs only once, losing in the NLCS in 1981." [Sporting News]
