O's sign a minor leaguer
Monday: Some on Scott and Jones | Tuesday: O's poised for improvement | Wednesday: Looking at Gonzalez, Bergesen, Guthrie and Wieters | Thursday: Update on Guthrie's contract status | Saturday: A closer look at Matusz, Johnson | Sunday: More on Tejada's position switch
Friday, February 5:
Roch Kubatko examines the O's lineup: "I've made the assumption that three spots in the Orioles' batting order are set. Brian Roberts leads off, Nick Markakis hits third and Cesar Izturis hits ninth. It's the rest of the lineup that's been a mystery.
I still believe you'll it see play out that way on most nights, but manager Dave Trembley suggested yesterday that only two spots are locked up." [masnsports.com]
Steve Melewski looks at the O's payroll: "I expect the O's payroll, which was reported to be about 67 million last year, will probably be in that neighborhood again this year.
There are a couple of reasons for that. Keep in mind the large number of players on the O's roster that are first or second-year players and not even yet eligible for salary arbitration.
I don't have the exact figures but a good guess would be that Brad Bergesen, Brian Matusz, Chris Tillman, Adam Jones, Nolan Reimold, Matt Wieters, Felix Pie and Jim Johnson could cost the club somewhere in the neighborhood of five million in salary for the 2010 season."

Dan Connolly reports an O's minor leaguer has been suspended: "Orioles minor league pitcher Brian Parker has been suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for the second time, a violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Major League Baseball and its teams do not announce what specific drug was found in violators' systems." [Baltimore Sun]
Connolly also says the O's have signed a minor leaguer: "The Orioles have signed corner infielder/outfielder Joel Guzman, once one of baseball's top prospects, to a minor league deal. He will not receive an invite to major league camp." [Baltimore Sun]
