Monday, February 8:
Roch Kubatko writes on the utility infielder spot: "Robert Andino is the incumbent, and Justin Turner, Scott Moore and Blake Davis - a late invite to camp - will provide competition. It's another battle that probably won't raise goosebumps unless the temperature dips." [masnsports.com]
Steve Melewski looks at Joel Guzman: "Earlier this month the Orioles signed Joel Guzman, a former Dodgers number one prospect, to a minor league contract.
The 25-year-old Guzman, who was a minor league free agent, did not get an invite to Major League spring training.
The 6'5", 245-pound, right-handed hitter batted .281-12-57 in 108 games at Double-A Harrisburg last summer and hit just .121 in 12 games at Triple-A Syracuse with the Nationals organization." [masnsports.com]
Camden Chat ranks Brian Roberts the No. 3 second baseman in the AL East: "I struggled with this pick as well, going back and forth between Roberts and Robinson Cano. My first instinct and what I really wanted was to put Brian in this spot but it's easy enough to make an argument for Cano. I didn't want to sound like a homer but ultimately I've determined that Roberts does deserve the three spot, at least for this year. Yes, Roberts will be 32 years old and he's declined a bit defensively, but offensively Roberts provides the production and stability to put him ahead of Cano. Brian Roberts puts up a healthy OBP every year, hits a ton of doubles, and steals bases at an 80% success rate year after year. The good thing about Roberts is that you know what you're going to get from him." [Camden Chat]
