Guthrie's third inning (updated twice)
This is more like it.
Jeremy Guthrie needed only eight pitches to dispose of the Yankees in the third inning. Seven of them were strikes.
Randy Winn grounded an 0-2 pitch to second base, Juan Miranda lined to right and Brandon Laird flied to shallow center.
Guthrie has thrown 60 pitches, 39 for strikes. He's allowed four runs and eight hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
Alfredo Aceves has replaced Javier Vazquez for the Yankees.
Update: Garrett Atkins greeted Aceves with a home run to left-center field. Tha'ts No. 1 for Atkins this spring, but he's 6-for-14.
Update II: Michel Hernandez is pinch-hitting for Michael Aubrey in the fourth. I can't imagine that manager Dave Trembley intended to give Aubrey one at-bat as the designated hitter. We'll have to find out what happened.

Roch,
Thanks for trying to take a positive spin on this ugly outing by Guthrie. If this was a regular season game, after 8 hits and a walk in 2 innings, he would be taking a shower by now. Lets hope he makes it thru the fourth without getting shelled even more. It sounds like they are taking batting practice off of him
Glad to see the offense picking up a bit. Takes some of the sting out of Guthrie's slow start.
Here's an article from mlb.com on BRob's injury status: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100313&content_id=8778182&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
It reiterates everything we've already heard from Roch and probably explains why Roberts dodged the media the other day. Probably tired of answering the same questions.
GO Atkins GO!
Rumors Larry!
My blog post to come Sunday!!
Guts seems to have settled down but still not that great..good for Garrett Atkins...I hope the guy is great...I am really routing for him to do well this year.
