Quick game update (corrected)

Juan Portes hit a two-run homer off David Hernandez in the eighth inning to increase Minnesota's lead to 8-3, and the sky opened up as manager Dave Trembley left the dugout. It's an absolute downpour.

Chris George is swimming to the mound.

The Orioles scored twice in the top of the eighth on singles by Justin Turner, Miguel Abreu and Jonathan Tucker, and a double-play grounder from Rhyne Hughes. Give Tucker an RBI. Don't give one to Hughes.

Abreu is playing right field. We've also seen him at second base and center field this spring.

Hernandez allowed three runs and five hits in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out five.

Now the tarp's on the field. Time to end this one and go home.

It probably would have been a good idea to cover the third base line. There's a huge puddle around the bag, and the grounds crew doesn't seem to mind in the least.

Bummie,Dorian G,Paul, et al,
Send Matusz down and go north with Hernandez!

I can believe that Millwood isn't a very good spring pitcher. I looked it up and he let up 10 runs in 3 innings in his 3rd spring start last year. Bounced back later in the month though and pitched great in the regular season.

Hey Roch,
The Red Sox had 6 starters in their line up today and Lackey pitching at Port St. Lucie. Maybe they mean business! Let's get with it! Go O's!

....at least we had no errors tonight?

Hi Roch,
First time commenting, read your blog all the time...great stuff! Down here and have tickets to the game tomorrow...hopefully it won't be pouring again!

Poor Millwood-should we be worried?

Too soon to worry. Sounds like he's always got bad numbers in spring training. I hope the weather's OK for you tomorrow, but the forecast is pretty bad. Sorry to say. Be sure to say hi if you see me. And thanks for writing. - Roch

We are not playing very well at all in any aspect really....and rain sucks in a game.
