Nationals still show promise

Posted August 27, 2008 by The Cheap Seats

A lot of Nats fans are disappointed in the season so far, but I feel like there are at least 3 reasons to be excited for the next year.

Elijah Dukes and Lastings Milledge have proven that they are big league ballplayers. Had it not been for injuries, they would have carried this team on their backs as some sort of dynamic duo.

The starting pitching predicament

Posted August 27, 2008 by Amber Theoharis

The Orioles could be in quite a jam for the Tampa series. Dave Trembley said he's going to piece together rotations series by series for the rest of the year. That's how dire the starting pitching situation has gotten.

If Daniel Cabrera is not healthy, the situation gets even worse. Cabrera had an MRI on his throwing elbow today, and it was negative. There is no structural damage. Still, Cabrera is feeling soreness in the forearm muscle near the top of his elbow.

Stat Boy vs. Frederick from Frederick: The return of "Bubble Gum" Jones

Posted August 27, 2008 by The Cheap Seats

On August 2nd, facing the Seattle Mariners, Adam "Bubble Gum" Jones fouled a ball off his foot, landing him on the 15-day disabled list with a broken left foot.

It has been 3 and a half weeks since his injury and he has begun to work out and take BP before games again. If the Orioles' trainers say that he is okay to play before the season ends, should they run the risk of bringing him back?

Nats Bullpen has a bright future

Posted August 27, 2008 by Johnny Holliday

Judging by the performance of the Nationals' bullpen in game one of their three-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the ballclub's future looks bright for next season.

With Joe Torre's club trying to overtake the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West, Washington slowed down the LA express with a 2-1 victory.

Buck's first video blog: Rebuilding an O's identity, a Bird with a standout attitude, and his take on instant replay

Posted August 26, 2008 by Buck Martinez

A few hours before game two of the O's-White Sox series at Camden Yards, Buck Martinez took a few minutes to sit down with MASN's Carolyn Wiedel to discuss the state of the O's. He talks about Andy MacPhail's goal of changing the baseball culture in Baltimore through rebuilding the Orioles' identity and reveals which Oriole he thinks has a standout attitude that will hopefully spread to the rest of the team.

He also discusses the gap between the Majors and Minors this year, how the team can stay motivated with just over a month left to play, and how instant replay might affect the game.
