The Orioles entered this series with Chicago with a record of 10-2 in home games on the year decided by just one run.
Now that record is 10-4.
After last night's 7-6 loss, tonight the Orioles fell behind 4-0, before losing 4-3 to the White Sox. The Orioles have lost six of their last seven games, fall to 8-17 in the second half and they are 8-24 over the last 32 games.
In his first start as an Oriole Jo-Jo Reyes, claimed a week ago on waivers from Toronto, gave up four runs in four innings...
Jo-Jo was a man that gave up two runs in the top of the second inning. Feel free to sing the rest on your own.
After a 1-2-3 first inning on 16 pitches, Reyes gave up two runs in the second in his first Orioles start. Carlos Quentin hit a 390-foot homer and later Brent Morel, batting ninth, added an RBI single.
In 20 starts for Toronto, Reyes allowed three runs or less in nine of his outings. The Blue Jays scored three or fewer runs for him in 10 of those games.
Reyes has had two seasons end...
There was some talk late last year that Orioles pitcher Jake Arrieta would have bone spurs removed from his right elbow. He didn't have the procedure performed then, but it might happen later this week.
Arrieta is flying to California tonight to meet with Los Angeles Angels physician Dr. Lewis Yocum and he could undergo the procedure on Friday.
He is expecting that to be the result of his meeting tomorrow with Yocum.
"Yeah. That's kind of the way I feel right now, I just think that, that...
Chris Davis returns to the Orioles lineup tonight after missing four games with a sore right shoulder.
The Orioles acquired Davis from Texas with Tommy Hunter in the trade deadline deal that sent Koji Uehara to the Rangers.
Davis is a player that has put up big numbers in his minor league career, but numbers not as robust in the majors. The Orioles have now less than two months to evaluate him to decide if he fits in their future plans.
Buck Showalter feels that is enough time to get a solid...
Checking in with a few Orioles hitting notes before they host Chicago tonight in Game 2 of a four-game series.
* Matt Wieters went 3-for-3 with two doubles last night, snapping a stretch where he had just seven hits in 51 at-bats. It was Wieters' first three-hit game since July 5 and the first time he had two doubles in a game since June 24.
* Nolan Reimold is struggling right now. He has just three hits over his past 26 at bats. In his last 10 games, Reimold is 4-for-33 (.121) without a...
One week after the Orioles claimed lefty Jo-Jo Reyes on waivers from Toronto, he will take the mound and get his first Baltimore start.
"It's good," Reyes said. "I'm used to starting, so it's not going to be that big of a difference. But just to get back on the mound and start the game off is going to be good."
Reyes was 5-8 with a 5.40 ERA this season in 20 starts for Toronto. He gave up 140 hits over 110 innings and really struggled over his last five starts, going 2-2 with an ERA of...
Well, at least the Orioles got their shortstop back tonight.
On a night they rallied from 4-0 down to take the lead, the Orioles still lost, 7-6 against Chicago and they fall to 1-3 on this 10-game homestand.
After missing three games with a sore left ankle, J.J. Hardy returned with a big game tonight. He went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and two doubles.
He tied his season high with four RBIs. He also drove in four on May 15 against Tampa and July 26 versus Toronto.
Before the game,...
Adam Jones seems to like the friendly confines of Camden Yards.
In 57 home games this year, he is batting .296 with 17 homers, 49 RBIs and an OPS of .928. In 53 road games, he is batting .288 with three homers, 20 RBIs and a .704 OPS.
Even though he went hitless on Sunday, Jones is batting .344 with eight multi-hit games over his last 15 games with four doubles, four homers and 13 RBIs.
Here is an interesting Jones stat: He leads the majors in batting average with two outs at .363. His 20...
The short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds will send four players to the New York-Penn League All-Star Game that is set for Aug. 16 in Lowell, Mass. IronBirds outfielder Glynn Davis, infielders Dudley Leonora and Joe Velleggia, and pitcher Trent Howard will play for the American League team.
A Baltimore-area native, Davis played one year at Catonsville Community College. Although he went undrafted, the Baltimore Orioles signed him as a free agent and Davis hit .316 in the month of July....
After putting his sore left ankle through some pregame paces, J.J. Hardy has pronounced the ankle healthy enough for duty and he returns to the Orioles' lineup here tonight against the Chicago White Sox.
"Got here early, went through my treatment and then taped it up," Hardy said. "I went out and tested it, basically doing all the things that hurt me in Kansas City and it felt fine."
He said there no longer is any pain to deal with it and that taking the Toronto series off did it a lot...
ABERDEEN, Md - After pitching very poorly in his last two starts, with the results to show for that, Orioles 2009 first-round pick
ABERDEEN, Md. - In his last outing for the short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds, right-hander Matt Hobgood gave up nine runs in just 2 2/3 innings.
This start tonight at Ripken Stadium is going a little better for him so far. He has retired the side in order in the first two innings on just 22 pitches.
The Orioles' first-round pick in the 2009 draft is working his way back from a strained rotator cuff. Making his fifth start this evening for Aberdeen against Hudson Valley, Hobgood threw...
ABERDEEN, Md. - It's humid and cloudy here at Ripken Stadium. The short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds, who are 16-32, will host the Hudson Valley Renegades, who have a record of 24-23 coming up at 5:35 p.m.
Matt Hobgood is starting tonight for Aberdeen and expected to pitch four innings as the Orioles 2009 first-round pick continues to work his way back from a strained rotator cuff.
Check back for updates on his outing tonight at Aberdeen.
Here is today's IronBirds lineup:
CF - Glynn...
Even though I feel like my blogging performance has been solid enough to keep me in the majors, I am sending myself to the minor leagues later today. I'll skip today's game at Camden Yards and will check in this afternoon on the Aberdeen IronBirds at Ripken Stadium.
Adam Jones has hit 20 homers this year but the one he hit tonight was the key blast in helping the Orioles win a game and it had Jones a little more fired up and emotional than he usually gets after most homers.
He wanted to give his starting pitcher a lift and a lead and he did both.
Adam Jones gets a pie in the face after getting his career high 20th homer of the season
"I rarely show emotion on home runs, but (Chris) Tillman battled his tail off and it was to take the lead," Jones said...
Well, there is at least one young pitcher in the Orioles' rotation not on any disabled list.
Chris Tillman put together perhaps one of the best starts of his big league career tonight, pitching the Orioles past Toronto 6-2 in front of 19,396 at Camden Yards.
Last Saturday at New York, Tillman looked strong early but then faded. This time, he was strong throughout, allowing just four hits and two runs over seven innings. He walked one and fanned five, throwing 93 pitches.
Tillman improved to...
No one is comparing him to Jeremy Guthrie, but Chris Tillman has pitched a few games this year without much run support.
Through 4 1/2 innings tonight, he trails Toronto 1-0 and the Orioles have been retired in order in four straight innings by Brandon Morrow on 43 pitches, 35 strikes.
In his 11 starts on the year, the Orioles have provided Tillman with 19 runs of support while he has been in the game, with 10 of those coming in two starts. In four of his 11 starts, the Orioles did not score...
Zach Britton is not concerned about his left shoulder, that is the good news. He was put on the 15-day disabled list yesterday with a left shoulder strain.
Britton said it is just a case of inflammation and he feels certain he could pitch Tuesday as scheduled, but for now, he will rest a bit before he resumes throwing in a few days.
"I wasn't happy with it (going on the DL), but I think it's in the best interests for both sides, so just kind of make the best of the time that I got,"...
Orioles first baseman Chris Davis said his sore right shoulder feels better today and he thinks he can play tonight. He missed yesterday's game after sleeping funny on the shoulder and developing discomfort and he underwent an MRI earlier today. The results of that are still not known and for now, Davis is not in tonight's starting lineup.
"I got X-rayed yesterday, before the game and they didn't really tell me anything," Davis said before batting practice. "I feel pretty normal today. I...
