Davis, Lough, Johnson early standouts in second exhibition game

SARASOTA, Fla. - Many of the Orioles are wearing gray wristbands with Monica Barlow's initials written in black marker. A member of the club's PR staff said manager Buck Showalter, hitting coach Jim Presley, first base coach Wayne Kirby, bench coach John Russell, first baseman Chris Davis, center fielder Adam Jones, right fielder Nick Markakis, shortstop J.J. Hardy, catcher Matt Wieters, second baseman Ryan Flaherty and third baseman Manny Machado are wearing the bands. Davis gave the Orioles a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out, two-run double off Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman. David Lough reached on an infield hit, Nelson Cruz walked and Davis drove them home. Nice hustle by Cruz to score from first base on a ball hit into the left-center field gap. Lough made a diving catch in left field in the third inning to rob Josh Thole. Steve Johnson rebounded from a rocky outing in an intrasquad game to retire all six batters he faced today, striking out Jose Bautista and Adam Lind. Miguel Gonzalez threw 33 pitches, 23 for strikes, in two innings before Johnson replaced him. He retired the side in order in the first, but gave up a run in the second on a Chris Getz triple and Jarod Goedert single. Adam Lind singled to lead off the inning, but Kevin Pillar grounded into a double play. Markakis has a single and stolen base. Hardy and Wieters had back-to-back singles in the fourth inning.
