Victor Robles MVP of Fall Stars Game (plus AFL update)

Outfielder Victor Robles continues to impress in different settings, demonstrating his advanced skill set during the Arizona Fall League Fall Stars Game in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Saturday night

Robles-Slide-White-Sidebar.jpgRobles won MVP honors in lifting the East past the West All-Stars 4-2 at Salt River Fields. He went 1-for-3 with a walk, stolen base, two runs scored and an RBI. Robles opened the game in the bottom of the first with a walk and a stolen base. Down 2-1, his RBI single in the eighth brought home the tying run.

"(I'm) taking advantage of it," Robles told MLB.com through interpreter Jacob Cruz, the hitting coach for Mesa. "(I'm) coming out here and really trying to do (my) best, so the team, the Nationals, take a look and see (I'm) trying to do better."

MLB.com rates Robles as the No. 2 overall prospect in baseball.

Robles' club, the Mesa Solar Sox, is 12-9 and has a slim half-game lead atop the East Division. They host 11-9 Scottsdale tonight. Through seven games, Robles is hitting .261 with one double, three stolen bases (none caught stealing), two homers and five RBIs.

Meanwhile, shortstop Kelvin Gutierrez has returned to the lineup with a vengeance after getting his hand spiked early on in AFL play. Over the last four games, he has accumulated six hits 10 at-bats with a triple and four RBIs. Gutierrez is batting .429.

Center fielder Daniel Johnson has gone without a hit in his last four games, and is currently batting .220. Taylor Gushue has caught in 12 games.

Right-hander Kyle McGowin is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in four starts. Right-hander Austen Williams is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in six appearances. Right-hander Dakota Bacus is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA in six games. Right-hander Jimmy Cordero is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in six games. In seven innings, he has eight strikeouts without allowing a run on just four hits.
