I just got off the phone with former shortstop Mike Bordick, one of my all-time favorite players that I've covered on the Orioles' beat. They don't come much better than him, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a teammate or reporter who would disagree.
Would Cal Ripken move to third base for just anyone?
Not so fast, Mr. Alexander. Back of the line, Mr. Bell.
Bordick attended the organizational meetings in Arizona last week and never was approached about the possibility of joining manager...

Oriole Park at Camden Yards opened to rave reviews in 1992 and is now viewed as the standard-bearer for the 20 major league ballparks that have opened since that time. As the Orioles prepare to celebrate their 20th season at Camden Yards in 2011, the ballpark is undergoing renovations to the seating bowl designed to keep the facility at the top of its class.
The Maryland Stadium Authority is currently completing the final phase of the replacement of the seats in the Oriole Park seating bowl as...

If the Orioles are going to add that so called "big bat" during free agency, the supply of quality hitters is certainly larger at first base than at third.
Adrian Beltre heads up a not great list of free agent third sackers, while Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko top the list of first baseman.
Dunn and Konerko are both type A free agents. Because the O's draft among the top 15 in the first-round of next June's draft, they cannot lose that pick. If they signed any type A free agent that is...
Potomac Nationals manager Gary Cathcart will have dual roles for the organization in 2011 and be able to coach dozens of prospects as a roving instructor and manager.
The first half of the season, Cathcart will be a roving instructor for the Nationals in the Gulf Coast League and Hagerstown.
"They like the idea of having another set of eyes alongside (Field Coordinator) Bobby Henley to coach these guys and evaluate our talent," Cathcart said.
After the draft in June, Cathcart will manage...

Grady Sizemore's health issues again knocked him out of the competition, but there was no room for Adam Jones...
Or at least trying.
Do the Orioles have interest in Japanese infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka if he's posted?
Yes, they do.
Is there a strong chance that they'll get him?
It doesn't look that way.
I guess that counts as two questions.
The Chiba Lotte Marines haven't committed to posting Nishioka, so it could be a moot point, but he wants to come to the U.S. and the Orioles have scouted him. They favor him more than pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma, who has a 30-day window of exclusive negotiations...
Need the perfect gift for the special Nats fan in your life? What about a thank you present for a great teacher, boss, coach or babysitter?
The Nationals have a solution -- the brand new "Holiday 3 pack."

• Opening Day vs. the Braves, March 31
• Battle of the Beltways vs. the Orioles on Friday, June 17
• 4th of July game vs. the Cubs
It also...
