The 2021 season isn't over yet, but if you are already looking forward to next year, Major League Baseball earlier today announced they 2022 spring training schedules for all 30 clubs.
All teams across the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues will open exhibition play on Saturday, Feb. 26. For the Nationals, that opening contest will require a three-hour trip to Lakeland to face the Tigers. The home opener at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches won't come until Sunday, Feb. 27, in a split-squad matchup with the Marlins.
In all, the Nationals will play 30 spring training games, mostly against the teams nearby on Florida's East Coast (the Astros, Marlins, Cardinals and Mets). The only other opponents they'll play are when the Tigers come to West Palm Beach on Friday, March, 4 and when the Yankees visit on Friday, March 18. The Nats do have to make another long-distance trip to face the Yankees in Tampa on Friday, March 25.
The Nationals will play their Ballpark of the Palm Beaches neighbors, the Astros, seven times in spring training, the last three as the home team. The exhibition season concludes on Sunday, March 27, with split-squad games against the Marlins (at home) and the Mets (away), only the Nats' second scheduled split-squad day.
Opening day is Thursday, March 31, with the Nationals starting the regular season in New York against the Mets.
