Broxton update and Orioles lineup in Anaheim

The Orioles won't be keeping center fielder Keon Broxton in the organization after designating him for assignment last weekend.

Broxton has been claimed off waivers by the Mariners, allowing him to stay in the majors. Broxton is out of minor league options and would have needed to clear waivers and be outrighted.

Acquired from the Mets on May 22 for international signing bonus slots, Broxton added value with his defense in center but slashed .204/.261/.350 (21-for-103) with three doubles, four home runs, nine RBIs and 49 strikeouts in 112 plate appearances over 37 games.

Broxton had been 3-for-31 and 10-for-74 before homering against the Red Sox on July 19 - his first since June 4. He was designated two days later when the Orioles recalled reliever Branden Kline.

Meanwhile, the Orioles already have assured themselves of a split of their four-game series in Anaheim and tonight will go for the win.

Aaron Brooks is on the mound for the Orioles, who have won six of their last nine games and are 12-11 in the last 23.

The rebuild is taking on a strange look.

The Orioles are 10-10 in July. They haven't posted a winning full month since going 17-12 in August 2017. They're 88-205 since that month.

Brooks is making his fourth start with the Orioles. He's allowed six earned runs (seven total) and 11 hits in nine innings.

Tonight marks Brooks' fourth appearance against the Angels this season, all in relief while pitching for the Athletics. He's allowed one run in five innings.

Shohei Otani homered off him.

Trey Mancini has homered in a career-high three consecutive games to raise his total to 24, the same number he hit in 2017 and 2018. He's in right field tonight.

Renato Núñez has homered in four of his last seven games and totaled 10 RBIs. He's 8-for-20 in the last five games and playing first base tonight instead of Chris Davis.

Davis is 0-for-12 with 10 strikeouts in his last four games with an at-bat.

Hanser Alberto is leading off and serving as the designated hitter. Jace Peterson is playing third base.

According to STATS, the Orioles have tied a major league record by hitting two home runs in nine straight games. Six teams have done it, including the 1987 and 1996 Orioles.

Anthony Santander went 3-for-4 with three RBIs last night and he's batting .301/.343/.506 in 42 games. He's 17-for-41 (.415) in his last nine games and playing center field tonight.
