PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Jason Berken is pitching the fourth inning with Tampa Bay leading the Orioles, 2-1.
Ryan Drese allowed two runs and five hits in three innings, with no walks, two strikeouts and one visit from head athletic trainer Richie Bancells.
Drese threw 43 pitches, including 27 for strikes.
Drese allowed one run and four hits in his first three appearances covering seven innings. In his last three outings, he allowed 13 runs and 18 hits in 7 2/3 innings.
Drese probably isn't going to make this club, but the Orioles would like him to start at Triple-A Norfolk. He hasn't pitched in the majors since making two starts for the Nationals in 2006.
He'll be ready to talk to the media in about 10 minutes, so I'll pass along quotes later.
Updated: Berken tossed a scoreless fourth, though he allowed two hits. The first one should have been scored an error on first baseman Derrek Lee. Berken also struck out a batter.
J.J. Hardy just tied the game, 2-2, in the fifth on a run-scoring double that followed Felix Pie's leadoff single.
Hardy began the day batting .356 with two homers, eight RBIs, a .388 on-base percentage and a .511 slugging percentage.
