Hagerstown center fielder Goodwin leaves game with injury; Ankiel homers

Low Single-A Hagerstown center fielder Brian Goodwin pulled up lame running out an infield single in the second inning of Monday's game for the Suns, an 8-7 victory in 11 innings over Lexington. According to a club source, Goodwin left the game under his own power, but favoring what appeared to be an upper right leg injury. Goodwin was able to slowly put weight on the injured leg and make his way back to the Suns clubhouse, which is all the way down the right field line at Municipal Stadium, walking alongside Suns trainer Jon Kotredes. It did not appear to be a knee or ankle injury, like the badly sprained ankle suffered by high Single-A Potomac third baseman Anthony Rendon at Lynchburg Saturday night. But the injury was serious enough that Goodwin was replaced in the game by Justin Miller. It is expected that Goodwin will be examined by team doctors Tuesday. As for the game, Nationals outfielder Rick Ankiel played in center and had two hits, a two-run homer and an RBI single. Michael Morse played in left field, going 2-for-4 with two singles. Third baseman Matt Skole cranked a grand slam in the first frame. Outfielder Caleb Ramsey with the game-winning hit with two outs in the eleventh.
