Jones answers Hardy (Reimold walk-off HR)

Shortstop J.J. Hardy hit his 21st home run in the first inning to break a tie with Adam Jones for second place on the team behind Mark Reynolds (26). Jones homered in the fifth to create another tie. Talk about a short-lived lead. At least the Orioles have held one since the first inning. Jones' homer, measured at 405 feet, increased the Orioles' lead to 4-0 and gave him a career-high 71 RBIs. Tommy Hunter retired nine in a row before Alex Rios led off the fifth with a double. He set down the next three batters before Juan Pierre led off the sixth with a double and later scored on Paul Konerko's grounder to short. Pie lunged for Pierre's fly ball and held it momentarily before it popped out of his glove. Credit Pie for having the speed to get to the ball, but you'd like to see him make the catch if it's in the webbing. Tough play, though. Hunter has allowed four hits, walked none and struck out two. He's thrown 73 pitches, 56 for strikes. People tend to obsess over velocity, but Hunter's cutter has been very effective tonight. Update: Hunter left the game with two outs in the seventh, two runners on base and the Orioles ahead, 4-2. Juan Pierre greeted reliever Jason Berken with a two-run single on the first pitch thrown to him. Orioles 4, White Sox 4. Hunter is charged with four runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings, with no walks and two strikeouts. He threw 89 pitches, 69 for strikes. It was Hunter's longest outing since Sept. 6, 2010 at Toronto. He deserved a better fate. Update II: Nolan Reimold hit a two-run walk-off home run off Jason Frasor in the bottom of the 10th inning. Orioles 6, White Sox 4. Chris Davis singled with one out and Reimold followed with his second career walk-off homer, the other May 27, 2009 against Toronto. Derrek Lee and Adam Jones also have walk-off homers this season. Also, Jake Arrieta confirmed that he'll undergo surgery Friday to remove the bone spur in his right elbow. No surprise there.
