SARASOTA, Fla. - Zach Britton said his flat-ground session went "really well" today, and he remains encouraged by the progress he's making after being bothered again by inflammation in his left shoulder.
Britton moved back to 100 feet today while making 60-70 throws. He also simulated his delivery on another 10-15 throws, also on flat ground.
Britton said he'll do the same thing Tuesday in his first back-to-back days of throwing.
"They want me to keep my throws up to 120 throws for those two days. Probably the same distance. It's going pretty good," he said.
"Tomorrow will be a good indicator. If I don't feel anything when I wake up after I throw tomorrow, and Wednesday if I feel good, I think that's something we don't really have to worry about anymore. Just start building up my arm strength."
Britton participated in pitcher fielding drills, though he didn't throw to a base after picking up the ball.
Adam Jones, Chris Davis, J.J. Hardy and Mark Reynolds took batting practice against one of the camp instructors. Now it feels more like spring training.
Notes: Second baseman Brian Roberts continues to spend most of his time at the minor league complex at Twin Lakes Park, out of view of the media. He continues to work out there and is performing some baseball-related activities, but it's hard to critique his progress when we haven't seen him.
For everyone asking about Nick Johnson's health, he looked fine fielding ground balls at first base. That's all I've got. He didn't arrive in a full body cast, if that's what you're worried about.
Reliever Willie Eyre dropped about 20 pounds over the winter. He didn't look heavy to me last season, but I guess he wanted to tone up.
Third baseman Mark Reynolds is 17 pounds lighter than last spring.
The Orioles aren't interested in Scott Kazmir, who threw for about 10 scouts on Friday.
