Orioles outright Jed Bradley

The Orioles cleared more room on their 40-man roster this afternoon by outrighting left-hander Jed Bradley to Triple-A Norfolk.

The move leaves them with 33 on the roster and it comes as no surprise.

Bradley was viewed as left-handed bullpen depth after the Orioles claimed him from the Braves on Oct. 7. There were early signs that he would come off the 40-man later, with the hope that he'd pass through waivers.

Bradley, 26, went 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA over six relief appearances with the Braves, allowing four earned runs over seven innings. He walked six batters, two intentionally, and earned the win in his major league debut on Sept. 3 in Philadelphia.

Bradley was 9-5 with a 3.09 ERA in 35 minor league games, including 13 starts, between Double-A Biloxi, Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett. The Braves acquired him from the Brewers on June 2 for a player to be named or cash considerations.

In 141 career minor league games (77 starts), Bradley has gone 31-34 with a 4.34 ERA and 396 strikeouts in 499 1/3 innings. He was the 15th-overall pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Georgia Tech.

The Orioles designated infielder Paul Janish for assignment to make room for Bradley. Janish refused his outright assignment and elected free agency.

The 40-man roster shrunk after players became free agents. Outfielder Joey Rickard and minor league left-hander Chris Lee were added after the Orioles activated them from the 60-day disabled list.

More players will be added from within the organization after the Orioles decide which ones to protect in the Rule 5 draft. Prime candidates include Double-A pitchers Jesus Liranzo, Stefan Crichton and Jimmy Yacabonis.
