Orioles race out to early lead (O's win 6-1)

The game time temperature at Camden Yards tonight was 66 degrees, 20 fewer than last night.

The Orioles came out hot, anyway.

joseph-swing-back-white-sidebar.jpgCaleb Joseph had a two-run double in the second inning and scored on Manny Machado's double. Machado scored on Alejandro De Aza's double.

If Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez is forced to leave the game, it may be due to a case of double vision.

De Aza moved to third base on a wild pitch and scored on Jimmy Paredes' infield hit to complete a five-run inning.

Paredes extended his hitting streak to 12 games. He's reached base safely in 16 games in a row. Machado tied his career high by reaching base in 19 games in a row.

De Aza was 5-for-41 in his last 12 games, but he's 2-for-2 tonight.

The Orioles are 23-3 when Caleb Joseph has an RBI during his career.

The inning started with back-to-back walks to Chris Davis and J.J. Hardy. Sanchez was being careful with Davis, who's now 5-for-5 with two home runs against him after a leadoff double in the third.

The Orioles sent nine batters to the plate in the second and staked Miguel Gonzalez to a nice lead.

Gonzalez stranded two runners in the first by retiring Edwin Encarnacion and Russell Martin on pop-ups. Encarnacion is 3-for-23 with three home runs lifetime against Gonzalez. The current Blue Jays began tonight 15-for-69 (.217).

Gonzalez hit Ezequiel Carrera leading off the second and Devon Travis singled to right. De Aza missed the cutoff man as Carrera raced to third, allowing Travis to take second. Another fundamental breakdown by the Orioles.

Machado fielded Josh Donaldson's bouncer and made a lunging tag of Carrera, who tried to get back to the bag. It was a risky decision not taking the sure out at first, but it paid off.

Jose Bautista grounded into a 5-4-3 double play, with Machado making a nice pickup, and Gonzalez escaped another jam. His pitch count stands at 38.

Update: Rey Navarro hit his first major league home run in the eighth to give the Orioles a 6-1 lead.

Gonzalez allowed an unearned run (on Joseph's second passed ball in two nights) and three hits in 7 2/3 innings, with three walks, five strikeouts and a hit batter. He threw 101 pitches, 65 for strikes.

Gonzalez retired 14 in a row before walking Kevin Pillar leading off the eighth. He's allowed one earned run or fewer in four of his seven starts, lowering his ERA to 2.93 in 43 innings.

Darren O'Day replaced Gonzalez and retired Jose Bautista on a tapper to the mound. Bautista was 5-for-15 with four home runs, eight RBIs and five strikeouts against O'Day. Oh, and they don't like each other.

Update II: Game over. The Orioles win 6-1 to take the series.

O'Day recorded the last four outs for his first save.

The Orioles are 15-17 on the season, and 24-3 when Joseph has an RBI.
