Orioles tie June home run record (O's lead 7-3)

SAN DIEGO - The Orioles' home run prowess figured to get them into the record books.

Their long ball binging continued today with Mark Trumbo's two-run shot off left-hander Christian Friedrich in the fourth inning that increased the lead to 4-0 over the Padres.

Trumbo leads the majors with 23 home runs. The Orioles, meanwhile, tied the 1996 Athletics for most homers in the month of June with 55.

The record for any month is 58 shared by the Orioles in May 1987 and the Mariners in May 1999.

Trumbo's ball traveled an estimated 410 feet to left field and followed Jonathan Schoop's RBI double and Manny Machado's RBI single.

Chris Davis struck out and Trumbo crushed another one, making him 4-for-6 with three home runs and eight RBIs lifetime against Friedrich.

The 1996 A's hit 55 home runs in 29 games in June. The Orioles reached the figure in 27 games.

The Orioles have one game left in June, as they begin a four-game series in Seattle.

The first nine Orioles were retired before Adam Jones drew a leadoff walk in the fourth. Schoop doubled to extend his hitting streak to 11 games, matching his season high, and the Orioles were in business again.

The runs and hits keep on coming.

Yovani Gallardo hasn't allowed a hit in four innings. He's walked two batters and struck out three, including Derek Norris on a 92 mph fastball.

Update: Friedrich fielded Davis' roller up the first base line and threw wildly to allow two more runs to score and give the Orioles a 6-0 lead.

Padres manager Andy Green was ejected for arguing that Davis' interfered while running up the line.

Gallardo singled to start the rally. He hasn't allowed a hit through four innings.

Jonathan Schoop has two doubles today and is batting .302.

Update II: Adam Jones' RBI single in the sixth gave the Orioles a 7-0 lead. Francisco Pena reached on an infield hit and moved to third base on Gallardo's broken-bat bloop single into right. Gallardo is 2-for-3 today.

Gallardo didn't allow a hit until Alex Dickerson singled with one out in the fifth.

Update III: Brett Wallace hit a three-run homer off Gallardo with two outs in the sixth to reduce the lead to 7-3. Gallardo had struck out back-to-back hitters to nearly escape the jam.
