Pregame notes before series finale in the Bronx

NEW YORK - Yefry Ramírez will get the start Wednesday night in Boston. Dylan Bundy pitches the opener Monday night.

What happens on Tuesday is largely dependent on which relievers are needed today with Alex Cobb returning to the rotation.

Another blister flare-up could tax the bullpen and leave manager Buck Showalter scrambling for a Tuesday starter.

Left-hander Sean Gilmartin and Jimmy Yacabonis are two possibilities.

Ramirez-Pitch-Gray-sidebar.jpg"You do manage a game trying to win, but you're also trying to make sure you've got enough bullets to cover some of the challenges," manager Buck Showalter said. "You try to do that every game.

"I think when the smoke clears today, we'll have a starter for Tuesday, I hope. Unless we have to use everybody, and then we won't."

Andrew Cashner remains unavailable, due to the bursitis in his left knee. The discomfort runs down his shin, and he might not make another start this month.

"I'm not going to commit to that one way or the other," Showalter said. "We're just kind of taking it day to day. We're going to be cautious with it. I know you all talked to him yesterday and understand what we're dealing with.

"If we get to that point where he feels like he's ready to go and he wants to finish the year throwing, we'll do that, but it's kind of his call."

Reliever Evan Phillips will be shut down for the rest of the month.

Chris Davis is on the bench today and sitting on 192 strikeouts. Showalter said he hasn't considered the idea of trying to prevent Davis from reaching 200 for the third time in his career. He totaled 199 in 2013.

"It hasn't been a topic for Chris. He hasn't brought it up," Showalter said. "I don't know. He hasn't brought it up to me. It's certainly something that we're aware of. It's another stat that reflects something.

"If I know Chris, he would rather prevent it from happening by playing and not doing it."
