Jayson Werth's most celebrated home run of his Nationals career came against the Cardinals to force Game 5 in the 2012 National League Divisional Series.
Werth provided another memorable moment against the team from St. Louis on Sunday. Coming off the bench in the seventh, Werth hit his first pinch-hit grand slam to help the Nationals down the Cardinals 10-2.
What a way to spend a day off.
It was the Nationals' 30th victory of the season. The win got the Nats a split in the four-game series as they now embark on a six-game road trip tomorrow night in Philadephia. The Nats play 19 of their next 25 games on the road.
Stephen Strasburg allowed a solo shot to Brandon Moss in the St. Louis fourth, but finished six innings and allowed one run on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. He threw 104 pitches, 66 for strikes.
With the win, Strasburg is now at a career-best 9-0 to start the season, a new franchise record for wins at the start of a campaign.
The Nationals answered in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by Bryce Harper and a two-run double by Wilson Ramos to erase the deficit and go up 3-1 against starter Michael Wacha.
Wacha ended up working six innings. He surrendered three runs on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
Anthony Rendon added a solo shot and Ramos later hit a two-run homer. He finished with four RBIs.
The Cardinals tested the Nats bullpen in the seventh. Three of the first four batters singled. Matt Adams delivered a RBI sacrifice fly to cut the Nats' lead to 3-2. But manager Dusty Baker used Oliver Perez, Blake Treinen and Felipe Rivero to get three outs and quell the rally.
