Bergmann unhappy with demotion
Right-hander Jason Bergmann who was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse, didn't take the news well that he was being sent down to the minors.
Bergmann appeared in nine games and didn't give up an earned run in 11 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out six.
"They said I had an option and a lot of the other guys didn't," Bergmann said. "They decided to go with the extra lefty and that's where I stand."
I said to Bergmann, you're obviously not happy about that and he responded "I don't think I should be. I have done everything that was asked of me, pitched well and obviously, mentally prepared myself to pitch in the game, to keep going forth and I had every indication that I had a good chance of making the team and those options hurt"
I asked if the team told him to work on anything while he's in Syracuse. "They didn't, they said everything you're doing is fine. It just came down to the unfortunate side of the game and I've seen it before, but this time it's on me."
Asked if thought he was treated fairly he said "I can't say either way. I sit down there in the bullpen and I don't think about that kind of stuff. I'm just told to go in the game scheduled. Spring Training is a little more regimented. I was able to know when I was throwing, got in the game and did the best I could."
Was there anything he would've done differently? "There's nothing I could've done differently, that's what they told me."
Bergmann will go to Syracuse and work out of the bullpen. There is a good chance we will see him back with the Nationals before the season is over.
