Besides optioning Chris Ray to Triple-A Norfolk today, the Orioles also claimed left-hander David Davidson off waivers from the Florida Marlins.

Davidson has posted a 3.00 ERA in 13 Triple A games - three with Indianapolis and 10 with New Orleans. Davidson also appeared in one game with the Marlins.

If you're a fan of Team Canada, you'll remember that Davidson made one appearance in the World Baseball Classic and tossed a scoreless inning against Team USA.

Davidson was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk, filling the last spot on the Orioles' 40-man roster.

Keep in mind that the Orioles can clear room by transferring Alfredo Simon and Lou Montanez to the 60-day disabled list.

David Hernandez is gone after 5 2/3 innings. He was charged with one run and five hits, with four walks and three strikeouts, and left to a rousing ovation.

Hernandez threw 108 pitches, 63 for strikes. He fanned Miguel Cabrera twice on fastballs clocked at 95 and 94 mph.

Matt Albers walked Gerald Laird to load the bases before striking out Ramon Santiago, so Hernandez could get the win.

Impressive. Hernandez had excellent command, and ice in his veins.

Why would the Marlins waive a guy with stats like that?

Pretty impressive... Albers getting the strikeout... Hernandez's debut and the fact that this was posted a full 8 minutes before I saw it on my TV screen. What are the lottery numbers for tomorrow?

On MLB's Gameday, they said there was an injury delay. Do you know anything about who is injured? Thanks Roch.
I'm looking forward to seeing this Davidson guy soon.

Davidson was waived because he has an mediocre record as a minor league reliever and a 30.00 ERA in the majors. Liz material at best.

Great night for Hernandez. Not scoring in the bottom of the 6th is pretty likely to come back to haunt us, especially since Albers started the 7th by walking a guy. Regardless, having these young guys give us good outings is as much as we can ask for and probably more. Thank you Andy.

Once again Gary Thorne has sent me to the radio. As a home announcer you can't get excited about a rally killing Double Play by YOUR TEAM.

Now I have audio 3 seconds behind my video. ''Let it be Lowenstein''.

I have not been this energized watching the Orioles since the first half of 2005 BEFORE Raffy was confirmed a roider.

So the Orioles are dipping in for some more Canadian content! Don't worry, we're not all like Adam Loewen. Most of us remember who brought us to the dance. But from the small world department, Davidson is from right here in Niagara where I reside. The local newspaper has done several stories on him. He's actually from a town called Thorold, Ontario. Even more ironic is the fact I was having a discussion with a guy last night at the local watering hole about Davidson. He is the same age as Davidson and has played ball on many of the same teams while growing up. He described Davidson as a really nice guy with impressive stuff including an especially nasty curveball. Now he's acquired by my favourite team... I can't help but root for him big time.

I realize he may never become a big-league star but it sure would be nice to see him succeed. Down your way, there is no shortage of Major League ballplayers who grew up in Baltimore. But around these parts, it is truly a rarity. He's someone all baseball fans in these parts can rally around.

why in the world do parents do that to their kid?

I don't know, but Dave Davidson was the "boss" character's name in Freddy Got Fingered, played by Anthony Michael Hall. PHENOMENAL MOVIE! Don't be fooled by the title. It was pure genius and a hysterical comedy.
