You say you want a resolution
Ryan Freel isn't playing in either game of today's doubleheader between Double-A Bowie and Trenton at Prince George's County Stadium, which goes against the plan laid out for us yesterday.
Freel was supposed to start in center field after going 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored as Bowie's leadoff hitter and second baseman in Game 1 of yesterday's doubleheader. He would have served as the designated hitter in Game 2 if rain hadn't washed it away.
The Orioles apparently decided that they didn't need to see Freel play anymore. He only received nine at-bats with the Baysox because of the weather.
I'm told that we'll have a "resolution" tomorrow, when Freel's rehab assignment is supposed to end. He was eligible to come off the disabled list yesterday, but the Orioles extended his assignment two more days.
Turns out, it only lasted one night.
He'll either be activated, with room being made for him on the 25-man roster, or he'll leave the organization. Perhaps we'll find out more later today.
If I'm Freel, I'm playing it safe and not sending out my laundry or committing to any three-day video rentals.

Maybe he stays & they slice some Pie instead.
Can you say PTBNL?
He's gone. I think DT's statement yesterday about hoping things work out well for Freel pretty much summed it up. Good riddance too. He didn't wanna be here, and we have plenty of young players that are just happy to be in the show.
You have to like his chances of going to LA? Right? Im OK with it, let him play somewhere, then he is back in the NL.We can get a low level prospect. Right? Right? Cmon it sounded so perfect... I know, I know...
Pauley has now given up 3 runs, 82 pitches 52 strikes, 7 hits 3 runs 1 bb 3ks...Wieters up now 2 on 0 out, 2 quick strikes (he's watching the first pitch a lot) called strike and 2 fouls, 1 ball.....then he popped out foul to 1B.
Oscar popped out to 1b in foul territory as well, but JC and J Cab tagged and advanced to 2nd and 3rd. Scott Moore doubled them both home, Tides lead 4-3
Roch in all honesty there is no room on this team for freel. There are to many people ahead of him to ever give him enough playing time to warrent being on this roster.Reimold would even be ahead of him in the orioles plan if they decide to end the Pie experiment. The best thing the orioles could do for him is to release him as another bad asset.
Great title. Good news too.
We all want to change the world.
If they cut him (or trade him) it would be a step in the right direction.
If he's not with us tomorrow. I wish Freel good luck in the future... and I hope he goes to a team that needs him.
If that's the team's comment-- a "resolution"-- then we've seen the last of Freel in Baltimore. I'm not complaining; I want to see Montanez and Reimold splitting LF/DH for years to come, but Freel didn't get much of a chance.
I'll vote for his leaving the organization. Sometimes people are so much of a pain in the rear end that they leave you no choice. I'm not sure that this hasn't been Freel's plan of attack.
It will also send a strong message. Toe the company line or you're gone.
Sounds like he is either being traded or released.
Good Riddens, and he needs to go. But I really can't say it is all his fault. Andrew brought him in under the notion he would be a 4th outfielder and then acquired his favorite (Pie). I just dont like him going public complaining like that about roles. If you have something to say, you shut the door and talk to the manager. If you dont like what he says, you take your millions and you sit on the bench until your contract is up. But either way, you make more in one year then most make in a lifetime. No crying towel here from me for Freel.
let's hope he is traded for a player to be named later so we can all bug Roch about it... speaking of which, hey Roch, who is the player to be named later is in the Pie deal?
Freel needs to go. Montanez, Scott & Wiggington can handle the LF & DH spots while Pie becomes the 4th outfielder with speed off the bench.
"If I'm Freel, I'm playing it safe and not sending out my laundry or committing to any three-day video rentals."
Wonder if Freel rents the "$34.99 special" like Huff daddy.
If only Freel were still with the Reds, he could've pitched in yesterday's blowout instead of backup SS Paul Janish. And Ramon H, not off to a bad start, finished the game spilling Votto at 1B, no doubt bringing back warm memories of the Venezuelan Winter League. If I were Freel, I'd be peeved that Cinncy thinks Darnell McDonald and Laynce Nix are not worth sending down to bring him back if he goes on the waiver wire.
See ya Freel...nice to know you.
Roch, when a player you are expecting to see play.....is held out for no reason........it has usually meant a trade is coming........Give us your call Roch.
what would be the point in having him on this team? honestly..
Excuses excuses Roscoe. The bottom line is that people do want to pay to see an acknowledged failure. Put on your XXXXXL Cubs jersey and go sit in the ivy mumbling about Bartman and Sosa.
If Andrew came out and said " Look, we probably will not contend this year but I am going to do everything I can with the resources I have to try to secure 82 wins" I think more people would be inclined to come out to the park.
But Andrew has put all his chips on 2010/11 and in the meantime has basically put the white morgue sheet over this season. Some of you can accept that, but I for one have higher standards both in sports and in life. If we fail fine, but at least go down trying. Andrew has not given this team an opportunity to at least TRY to succeed.
He's like Nero, playing the flute as Rome burns.
So what do you think, do you think he is going away because Trembley wants to see Montanez
Roch, I saw Kevin Blackistone on the campus here at UMD today, apparently hes a proffesor. When are they going to make you one.

I'm really curious about what will happen with freel.I'm an eagles fan, and when they have disgrunteled players that want trades, they trade them when they want. But first they get them a little more upset first. If I knew he was gonna be in the lineup tomorrow I would head on down to boo him. I hate crybabies, It is a slap in the face to the working man.
Just putting todays news together - maybe trade Freel to the Dodgers for someone??
Hey Roch, you hear that A-Rod is going to play friday?
...Just what the O's needed.
Also, if we were to trade Freel, what type of player would we get in exchange?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I heard about A-Rod. I'll have a Trembley quote about it later. As for Freel, not really sure. Could just be mid-level type prospect, if they get anything at all. - Roch
I remember always wanting Freel up until about a year ago. Even so, I found myself excited that we were acquiring him and was ecstatic to be seeing him running into walls and stealing bases in Baltimore. His hard-nosed mentality was only outdone by his hard-nosed style of play. That being said, this could have been the very characteristic that forced his career demise. His injuries cost him valuable time towards the potential end of a career and it seems (from our brief encounter with him) that he might not be able to do it anymore. Great utility guy that will probably get picked up by some NL team if we were to release him, but we might have gotten him a few years too late.
Perfect example of how the juice doesen't just have to make you hit better or more home runs. Kept nephew playing longer. That Dempsey clan did't raise any dumbies. Only 11 more days till my prostrate exam at St. Agnes. I'm really excited.

We all want to change the world"
I think this will tell more about how the front office deals with trouble makers. My guess is Andy & TB don't want anybody rockin' the sinkin' boat. It would be good of management to send a message.
Gotta tip the cap to you lately on several of your headlines, Roch. As you might say, nicely played, sir.
I have to admit I was hoping for a comment from my girlfriend-with-crabs line earlier. Hey, if I didn't say something, you were going to. You know you were.
I'm betting Freel gets traded to the Dodgers, who might need a spare outfielder for the next 50 games...
Well sir, he's gone. I think it's trade for cash or ptnl. You don't suppose he's going to the Dodgers for Manny, do you?
roch, has there been any talk about molding montanez into a utility role? I know he played some infield in the minors. He might excel there.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It appears his infield days are over. He could get a long look in left field, however. - Roch
My guess is that he has been the subject of trade talks and is being held out due to the risk of injury. Ok maybe not but at least we can hope.
Sounds like he has been traded....and the O's did not want to risk an injury...I hope he has been....let Montanez/Pie and Scott play LF
People are still renting videos?
What really are the chances Freel gets released? There isn't anyone banging down the door to trade for him, right? Isn't it to early to cut him loose?
Roch,
I think Andy is out to get you and thus will trade Freel for a ptbnl. Welcome to the equivalent of the blogging world's seventh ring of hades.
3 day video rental?? Don't you know that Netflix is a major sponsor of your blog? And with Netflix you get absolutely no late fees. They also have 12000+ free movies that can stream on demand to your laptop - perfect for the road warrior (unless you and Aubrey Huff share similar film tastes).
I applaud your Beatles reference, sir.
