Chris Ray update
Orioles reliever Chris Ray, on the disabled list with right biceps tendinitis, is scheduled to begin his injury rehab assignment Friday at Double-A Bowie.
The Baysox start a seven-game homestand with three games against Reading.
Ray recently began a throwing program at the minor league complex in Sarasota, Fla. He's carrying a 9.28 ERA in 21 1/3 innings with the Orioles, which would make anyone's arm sore.

Minor league teams don't need to make room for guys on injury assignments
A lot hinges on this guy getting it together. Let's hope this is the last rehab assignment for Ray!
Roch, great work on breaking the news of the Oscar/Cla trade first! I hope you know I'm counting on you to let me know of any other moves coming up! You're my man on the inside of the warehouse!
They ought to just leave Ray in the minors the rest of the year unless they can throw him in on a trade. He ain't never gonns cut it up here. We have "The Craw" now anyways.
The second Ray is healthy he needs to be DFA. What would the O's gain by bringing him back? He is a liability and a minor league pitcher at best.
Jack: Please let us know how Ray looks at Bowie.
If Ray is on the ML Roster before the end of the year, you can add STUBBORN to Andrew's list of character traits.
''Keep 'em Yanks in the Park''- That key to the game from Dempsey is pure Shakespeare.
Where can I nominate Oscar for the AAAA HOF? The way the boards have been blowing up you thought we had just traded away The Babe.
I don't usually agree with Brummie but in this case I do. I don't really like the trade. I mean, if Salazar was going to be DFAed anyway I guess it's not a terrible idea to try to get something for him, but I don't see Meredith having much success. He's going from the worst hitting division to the best, and he gives up way too many hits as it is. His ERA doesn't include all of the inherited runners he allows to score. I don't think HRs will be much of a problem, though. His ground ball rate is good so he doesn't really benefit as much from Petco's main pitcher-friendly aspect as pitchers who give up more fly balls. He might give up a few, but not so many that it makes him unusable. It's his lack of strike outs and WHIP that worries me. At least he has an option.
Gee, I sure hope he can find his "arm slot" now. Hahahahahahhaha!!!
lol right field porch at spankee stadium, here's hoping our lefties destroy it.
Step up David, we know it's gonna be tough but make it happen you're on the grand stage here.
Roch,
Thanks for the update. What is your best guess on how things will play out for both Chris Ray and Dennis Sarfate, as they make their way back from the DL through Rehab Assignements? I don't think Trembley or Kranitz can be very comfortable putting either in a game based on the results earlier this year. What were the best vittles you threw down this weekend at the beach?

They'll eventually be added to the roster, and take over their original roles. The trick will be making room for them. And if they're not effective, then we'll have more issues. Funny that I can't hear the word "vittles" without thinking of the Beverly Hillbillies. Anything my mother puts in front of me exceeds anything I'll get in any restaurant - though my dad gets major props for grilling the steaks Saturday night. - Roch
i just hope they take there time with ray. no big deal if he spends a month in the minors. let him get healthy and be consistent with his motion. meanwhile after throwing about 150 pitches in the first hernandez has settled down after 4 innings. hope he can get thru at least 6 solid innings.
Depressing stat of the day courtesy of YES broadcasters, We are 2-22 in our last 24 games on the road against AL East opponents.
Yikes.
This is completely unrelated, but am I the only person who gets really anxious when the Orioles are fielding a popup?
The offense has played right into Petit's hands tonight. They have let him get off easy in the innings when they have gotten runners on base. The aggressive approach at the plate has helped keep his pitch count relatively low. It seems like that short porch in right has been in the back of their minds all night.
Unbeleivable!! The offense has given up two runs by not just glancing at the third base coach!! Looks like another one of those fundamentals gone wrong game.
Baserunning miscues +2
Runners watching Cano instead of Samuel. One rookie. One vet. The tally grows...
Wow, how many times has Nick Markakis not gotten it done this year? Seems like alot. What the hell was Roberts doing? Just slide into the plate, you beat the ball. Had to be cute. This one has L written all over it.
Scratch that: 3 baserunning mistakes. Roberts made a good attempt and got nailed by a good throw. We should be ahead by 2.
What is Ray's contract like? I kinda feel he is worth just letting go.
Two outs at home on two bone head base running mistakes. Ituriz fails to score from first on a double in the endless right corner
Mora fails to field routine ground balls.
I wont say I told you so but this team is showing all the signs of
the "annual" second half IMPLOSION!
Everyone must be watching the game.
What is Juan Samuel doing tonight? Is he watching the game?
He needs to go.
Well, that was a bummer. A very well pitched game. Those two plays at the plate were huge.
Well Roch, your Nicky prediction is off to a good start.
Roch,
Will Chris Ray spend the full 30 days on his rehab assignment?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haven't been told. Depends on he's throwing and if there's a spot for him. - Roch

We all know there will be a spot for him once Danny Boy is traded..... Unfortunately, I think Ray needs to finish the season in the minors. In spring training he looked really fresh. Watching him his mechanics look like a 12 y/o.... so him staying in the minors to attempt to correct his flaws I think is the best option. No question he has great stuff just has to be more consistent.
JJ vs Matsui. I saw that HR coming. It was a terrible matchup. He should have pitched him very carefully and if he walked him get the next guy. He is not a threat to run and there was one out. With Yankees little league porch in right, feed him fastballs away and slow stuff in that way if he hits it, it will go foul. JJ has good stuff but doesn't pitch smart.
