Detwiler out, Mock in
Left-hander Ross Detwiler made 10 starts for manager Manny Acta in the first-half of the season, going 0-5 with a 6.40 ERA.
He's still a work in progress, so after Sunday's game with the Astros, Detwiler was sent down to Triple-A Syracuse.
The 23-year old rookie struggled in his last three starts, giving up 16 runs in his last 12 1/3 innings.
Detwiler admitted that he's been working on his mechanics, trying not to fly open during his release to the plate.
He had three quality starts but none of them converted into wins. On June 20th at Toronto he allowed two runs in seven innings, the longest start of the season, but he settled for a no-decision.
Detwiler gave up a run on one hit against the Orioles in the Nationals 2-1 loss back in May.
Washington will call up Garrett Mock from Syracuse and insert him into the rotation when the second half of the season begins.
Since being demoted on May 21st, Mock has dominated the International League, going 5-1 with a 1.82 ERA in eight starts.
Mock has won his last five starts, giving up only two earned runs in 35 innings. He's struck out three while striking out 28.
In 13 games with the Nationals this season, all out of the bullpen, Mock was 0-2 with a 6.92 ERA.
Here is the rotation to start the second half
John Lannan- July 16 vs. Cubs
Scott Olsen -July 17 vs. Cubs
Jordan Zimmermann -July 18 vs. Cubs
Garrett Mock - July 19 vs. Cubs
Craig Stammen - July 20 vs. Mets

Mock has deserved it. His stats are better than any of the other candidates. The right call.

Hopefully Mock can stay the course
I know this is off topic but does Danny Espinosia play only shortstop?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
No, he can play second as well.
You gotta like a player who is willing to admit that they need to work on something, and accepts that a major league rotation really isn't the best place for it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
True. He's not happy about the demotion, but knows why it was made. He'll be back, most likely in September
I know this is off topic but do you think Drew Storen could be up in the majors soon or in september when they expand rosters and do you see Storen as a future closer?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think he'll be up in September and yes he is the closer of the future
