Pie update
Orioles manager Dave Trembley told reporters in Cleveland that outfielder Felix Pie's injury isn't as serious as they first believed.
Pie will rest for a few more days and could return to the lineup next week.
"We thought it was going to be a whole lot more severe than what it was," Trembley said.
The Orioles are listing the injury as a left hamstring strain, which occurred in the seventh inning last night as Pie tried to beat out a double play grounder. He was examined by an Indians team doctor and will be checked again Monday in Tampa.
Pie is batting .304 in his last 33 games beginning Aug. 14, when he hit for the cycle, and .297 in his last 75 games. He's 6-for-16 with three RBIs on the current road trip.

Best of luck to Pie on his injury and speedy recovery.
But to be honest, it opens the space for a legit prospect. Problem is, we dont have any to bring up. I guess that leaves screech to play center. Another AAAA player to add to an already extremely weak lineup.
Lets hope for the best and expect tomorrow to bring SIX
Roch, Have managers ever been traded?

In 1977, manager Chuck Tanner went from Oakland to Pittsburgh for catcher Manny Sanguillen. The Pirates also received $100,000. - Roch
See ya Pie. You won't be missed. Those stats don't paint the whole picture. When a player is slapping 2 out singles with no one on and the team trailing by 8 runs and he never steals or scores, is he really contributing? Plus you have to factor in all the runs he ALLOWED based on bonehead outfield plays.
On a long enough time line, you can find stats to make any player look good.
Enjoy sipping Rum and Cokes on a Dominican beach this offseason and preparing to be gift wrapped the starting LF spot next spring while Reimold gets demoted or has to ride the pine.
Hello Roch,
Any chance in a future post you might present your insight/feelings as to what players the O's have that might get some attention in the trade market. I am only talking about the ones that the O's would realistically think about moving. As an example, with his late season progression, would some teams have an interest in Felix now, even though he still has the zero options collar?
Thanks for you writing, being exiled in KC it is much needed.
Hi Roch;
I don't want to sound like Jack or Brummie, because I love the O's, but I can't wait for the season to end. It's funny but with all the injuries and losses, I still love the O's. I know Jack and Brummie will say I drink too much kool-aid, but I think I'm just a real fan. But the sooner the season ends, the sooner the hot stove season begins and spring training will be right around the corner.
Harrisburg Steve, You jumped on me a couple of days ago for my extended rant against Trembley's decision to bench Markakis and Roberts and with them so close to milestones.
Fair enough, but your attack doesn't stand up to scrutiny. You say poor Nicky hasn't had a game off all season. Dude, I know you live up in PA, but maybe you've heard of a guy named Cal Ripken? Played for the Orioles for a while, ah, pretty good player.
No, don't tell me about a day off. Like I said he'll is great condition and will have plenty of them in a week. Man up. (You've heard the expression in PA, right?)
As for not caring about records, who are you to say that records don't mean anything to them? I guarantee that Brian would love to get to the 60 doubles mark; that's a no-brainer. And while 100 RBIs in a season may be more common, it's still significant in it's own right and shows that Markakis gets the job done in a superior way. Players care to be recognized among the best in their era and in history and don't ever think anything different.
Vince: You are not a Kool Aid drinker (KAD). A KAD would say something along the lines of "Everything will be OK. We have Andy MacPhail in charge!" OR "This year was not about wins and losses." OR in the words of Jimmy "Yes Man" Hunter: "You cannot say enough about the job Andy MacPhail is doing here."
Wow...turn your head one second and now the O's are down 3-0
A battle of losing organizations. You can easily see which one wants to win and turn there future around.
Didn't the Rays (Devil at the time) trade Randy Winn to Seattle to get Piniela in as manager? There was some silly kind of transaction like that.

Regarding the question raised by Bill from Elkton, the Cleveland Indians traded manager Joe Gordon to the Detroit Tigers for manager Jimmie Dykes (who I believe also managed the Os in the 1950s). I don't remember the exact year, but it was probably 1960 or 1961.
Pie is no better than a bench player. Markakis, doesnt need a day off. Why? He has not done anything for over a month at the plate. His numbers are not as good as his new contract deserves. I am sorry. He to me, is not the O's mvp. This team could win or lose just as well without him, this year. Brian Roberts, is another story. Nick, has shown he is definitely not a #4 hitter. But, right now , I dont think he would be any better hitting 3rd. He swings at bad pitches, more than ever. Come on Oct 4th.
isn't there a fire that jack and dumb*ss could go play in? as for Felix, he's played really well since AJ went down, and, yes, Nicky is struggling right now, but you can't write off 3 good years based on a couple bad months
Ken -that is one of the dumbest posts I have seen on here. I know you are better than that. Nick should not get a day off because Cal Ripken didnt need one? And I suppose our 1B should hit 70 home runs because McGwire did and our OFs should steal 130 bases because Ricky Henderson did. Spurious argument.
I can hardly believe all the negativity here about Felix Pie. Since May 1 his numbers are very respectable--basically he had one crappy month. More important, he seems to have developed plate discipline--that's a very positive sign. I can't help but wonder whether some folks have this guy confused with Corey Patterson.
