What I'm up to and Yankees...Imagine that
| | Comments (9)

Hi everyone - Sorry I've been out of the loop since season's end.

I haven't been home since March 1st--There's so much to do here! Things are heating up for me in Baltimore though.

As a lot of you know, I did a little recording this summer with Deanna Bogart (rhythm and Blues girl) from Baltimore and the BSO. We've put together a Christmas CD that's pretty nice.

Rick-Dempsey_CD-Release-Banner].jpg

We will be selling it at Royal Farms as of November 15 and of course at VistaRecords.net and RickDempsey24.com.

There is also a big release party at Serafino's Restaurant on the 15th.

The evening starts at 6:00 p.m. and the band will start playing at 7:00 p.m. Come one, come all - We will be performing from the CD, as well as playing some other tunes. We will have a blast, and I will get another chance to meet you all. Hope you can make it!

I'm also doing a lot of appearances in Baltimore.

Coming up are...
Geppi's Museum: November 15 - Noon to 4:00 p.m.
Padonia Station: November 17 - 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Ocean City with Deanna: November 20
Great Moments in Westminster: November 21 - Noon to 2:00 p.m.

And DONT LAUGH...

Dancing for the Arts at Bulle Rock Golf Course: November 21 at 7:00 p.m.

Come out - We'll raise money for the Arts Building and we'll have some fun. I'm singing "I'm a Soul Man" - Who knows, it might work out.

Okay, back to a little Baseball...

Who didn't think that the Yankees were going to win from the beginning? Anyone could have picked that one. I guess in a way I was hoping they would win, since in the end, I am an AL guy all the way.

BUT, as I was watching the celebration at the end, it just didn't look like the same kind of celebration I was involved with the two times I was there. Yeah, they were bouncing around, happy to win, but I got a funny feeling that there was something missing.

I can't quite express that feeling in words, but what I'm about to say may make sense: I thought the headline the next day should have read, 'It was a well bought battle' (instead of a 'well fought battle'). Do you get what I mean by saying so? I don't have any reservations about any of the Yankees who were part of the team. I can appreciate all of them as players--Jeter, A-Rod, Matsui, Tex, Swisher, Cano, CC, Jorge, etc.

One-on-one we have talked as professionals, and they are great guys who work hard at it and are true professionals.

It's just that until there is a true salary cap in baseball, NY will always have first pick at whoever they want in order to stay in the World Series race.

The fact that we never had a chance to attract Teixeira, or AJ Burnett, or CC Sabathia says it all. Jealous? - Well maybe I am. I mean, what Tampa Bay did last year was a miracle that may not happen again for a long time.

I know what the Players Association would think about a cap--and the last thing I would ever want to see again is a strike--but for the good of all the other teams and the health of the great game of baseball, something besides TV ratings should be considered.

Nice checking in with you, and I hope to see many of you all at Serafino's!

I am glad to hear, that even an ex player, feels baseball needs a salary cap. it would make baseball a lot more competitive and exciting. And maybe more would become interested in the sport, again. Right now, the way it is, the same teams are there in the end. Year after year. Talk about boring.......

Right on Mr. Dempsey...I wrote about the same thing today. I would be honored if you would take a look...here's the link if you are interested.
http://gamedaywithchrisvinson.blogspot.com/ I am a life long Orioles fan and I read and watch you guys all year round. If you do get a chance to look, please feel free to comment. It would mean alot to me.
Thanks,
Chris.

Rick what are your thoughts on Adam Jones' Gold Glove?

Rick, I agree about the cap. Part of the problem is that each franchise has a different owner with different financial states. In the case of Boston and NY, they're very well off. Without a doubt, you have to have big bucks to own a sports team, and Peter Angelos is no exception. But the Steinbrenners and the Henrys can outspend everyone. That said, I think that Oriole ownership and management has come to the conclusion that if they spend a bit more to keep our own great players here (ie-resigning Roberts and Markakis), the revenue will start to trickle back in the form of merchandise and ticket sales. When/if the current crop of O's makes some noise in the form of a penant chase or a playoff run, we'll be able to say that we did it the right way. Good luck with the music!

Rick you play music!?! Man as a guitar player I have to say you never stop suprising me by not being the typical athlete. Keep on keepin' on man and good luck!

I know what you mean, Rick. What was missing was surprise. If you're the favorite by far and have every advantage in the world, winning isn't special. And seeing car after car filled with players making disgusting amounts of money riding through wall-street was a bit of a turn off--if not infuriating.

AROD is not a true professional. Any guesses as to why i would say that?

Good guy maybe, but when you cheat, you can no longer be considered a true professional. Seems to me like their payroll kind of takes away from the their WS victory. Doesnt seem like it should be seen as something truly special when you blow other teams out of the water with spending.

Rick, when are they going to hire you as manager of the O's?
I'm sure you could lead us to the WS in 2011!
Or, to the R&R hall of fame?!!

Guess I will have to just keep waiting...

Hi Rick:

I have been a big fan of yours for many years and an Orioles fan since 1958 at age 9 I saw my first game at Memorial Stadium. I agree baseball is in for a big shock if a salary cap is not enacted. The players are not thinking past their Ferrari purchases. Baseball is reverting back to the 1950's when Yankees and other teams used the the Kansas City A's and Washington Senator as major league talent scouts. I do not think the Orioles,a small market team, have the resources to compete with the Yankees,Red Sox, Dodgers, Mets the Chicago teams and the Phillies. That forces several small market teams like the Orioles to have per-annual losing records because they can not afford to hire the good or great players. Also, the other problem is trying to maintain players after they develop in good or great players. I think the Orioles will not have the ability to ink the first big contact with several of the current young players once they have shown great ability. I hope we are not the Pirates of the AL East. If a small market team tries to compete, the tickets prices increase and the average fan and families can not afford to go to a game. To they credit the Orioles have resisted the large increased in tickets prices.
