More from Moore
Infielder Scott Moore said he began working out with former Orioles center fielder Brady Anderson in August after they met last spring and struck up a friendship.
"I just happened to run into him," Moore told me earlier today. "I wore No. 9 the year I made the team out of spring training. Brady was a really good player here and I just talked to him about wearing No. 9 and how I thought that was pretty cool. He asked me where I worked out and invited me down to his house in the off-season, so when I got hurt and was home, I wasn't going to go back to my place that I usually go to in the off-season. I just called him up to check it out and see how it was, and from there, I loved what we were doing and I stayed there the whole off-season.
"The biggest difference I did this year was we did a lot of track workouts, where in the past my running was more geared toward conditioning. This year, the running was geared more toward trying to get faster and more powerful. In the past, it was a lot more strength and weights and core and running for conditioning. This year, we ran a lot."
Moore said he's 10 pounds lighter "than I've ever been," but that's not the only difference.
"I feel stronger," he said.
Moore has taken batting practice with other hitters in the past, but he also confined that part of his workout to his sessions with Anderson.
"We made little adjustments and I think that's going to make a big difference, also, being consistent throughout the season," he said.
The surgery on Moore's right thumb involved repairing the ligament and reducing the capsule to increase his range of motion. He tried to play through the injury, first sustained in 2008, but couldn't do it.
"The first time I got hurt, I built up a lot of scar tissue and they wanted to reduce it," he said.
Moore hit seven homers and drove in 21 runs in 32 games at Triple-A Norfolk before being shut down and undergoing season-ending surgery.
"Even if I would have gotten off to a terrible start, I didn't want to get hurt," he said. "I had a good spring training, got off to a good start in the regular season in Triple-A. Yeah, it's frustrating being home at the end of May. It's not fun. I had to come say hi to everybody in Anaheim instead of being called up to Anaheim."
Moore won't compete for a starting job with all four infield spots occupied. His best chance is to unseat Robert Andino as the utility infielder.
"I'm here like I was last year, trying to come out and show that I can help the team win in any way possible and however they need me," he said. "They'd be crazy not to sign Miguel Tejada and Garrett Atkins. They're trying to make the team better. Hopefully, I'm part of that."
Moore moved around the infield two spring trainings ago, but manager Dave Trembley kept him at third base last year. It's time to make him mobile again. And he should be taking fly balls in left field.
"I have no idea what's in store now," he said.

I'm rooting for him, he deserves an injury free year, so we can see what he can do. Our depth is the best I've seen in years.
What he talking about Anaheim for?

Because he visited the team while they were in Anaheim. - Roch
Everyone needs to check out this link on YouTube about Brummies. It is hilarious.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiSqUXBeyZk&feature=related
Brummie, after seeing this, I can understand you more now.
Gotta root for a guy like Moore..he has looked good in ST a couple of times and still did not make it...and now trying to come back from injury...he has looked really good when I have seen him play and he tore it up 2 springs ago. Just hope he sticks around and plays his way back to being noticed. Moore is a smart kid to pick Brady for a friend and work out partner...and good to pick Brady's brain as well.
I think Scott Moore and Aubrey deserve a chance to have Wiggintons spot. Both are younger and cheaper and probly produce some what close to wiggys numbers last year.
Hey Roch any word on how Ohmans throwin the ball??? i think he can be a major asset out of the pen this year especially in this division
thanks

Haven't seen him on the mound. - Roch
Thanks to RichD who got me up to speed on "Brummies". I never heard the term prior to reading this blog. The School Of Roch once again proves to be educational as well as entertaining!
I believe Miguel Tejada has #9 now. My favorite Oriole #9: Russ Snyder. Beautiful diving catch he made in right center robbing John Roseboro in game 1 in the 1966 World Series.
Have to say it...was there any of Brady's special supplements involved? Sorry...too easy.
A friend of a friend was helping Brady get in shape in spring training a few years ago when he was trying to hook on with the Padres. Got to meet Brady in AZ. He was a really nice guy, signed a bat and some other stuff for us. I heard that same Guy was training Blake Davis and Chris Tillman this winter here in So Cal.
Very encouraging on Moore. Gotta root for him.
It's not like a deep shin bruise and he needs to wrap it in cheese before the downhill, but he's had his obstacles. :)
Thanks, Roch, for all you do. This is where you earn your pay. It's work, and it is much appreciated.
I sat down tonight and ran through all the blogs of the day. Didn't have a chance to peek at work. Now I'm up to speed.
Best,
hey Roch, have you heard anything about the O's having any ticket packages available this year besides the season plans already available? Last year I got the opening day six pack and I was looking for something similar.
Thanks

Sorry, I haven't heard. You can call the Orioles and they'll be glad to explain it. Or maybe write to Kate's O's Buzz blog. - Roch
This will probably put me on you s*** list but here goes. I guess I have a twisted sense of humor but I find Brummie in a way sadly comical unles he is really being repulsively personal in his comments. His predictions are funny and his seletion of a favorite player are usually the opposite of what the rest of us think. That is his way of getting a rise out of people. What bothers me more are the number of people who take up your precious time and the rest of us reading their rants about him. Some of them are as bad as Brummie.
This is one of the best YOUNG teams I can remember in 66 years of being a fan. There was a time between 1952 and 1972 when I was in the Navy and sometimes the info was sparse but I still cared.Hope to be around at the end of the season to see how 2010 turns out.
Thanks for letting me ramble
Roch I know you are really busy getting going and settling into Sarasota and ST but check this Camden Chat article from today a post on 2015.....funny read..hope it comes true.

My guess is that the ball is coming out of his hand real good. :)
I could see Scott Moore as the utility man. Nice bat for that role.
Wikipedia had this about Brummie's: A study was conducted in 2008 where people were asked to grade the intelligence of a person based on their accent and the Brummie accent was ranked as the least intelligent accent. It even scored lower than being silent.
Funny stuff!!
Scott Moore started his professional career as an 18-y-o shortstop in 2002. In the seven years since, he has played exactly nine games at short and three at second, not exactly a utility infielder's resume. I'll take him sight unseen over Ty, though. Which gives him something in common with a ham sandwich.
I like Dave Trembley (or at least I don't dislike him). I've defended him here many times, albeit pallidly. But that man utters more un-diagrammable sentences than anyone this side of W. "I don't think Adam ever does anything that could be misrepresented as nothing more than he tries so hard and he cares." When Dave starts a sentence, does he have any idea where it's going?
amarie: When they say Millwood's the first one in the clubhouse, do they mean after practice or before? Anyhow, I'm glad it's not so much what he says as what he does, because what he says is stultifying. He and Dave should have a speech contest.
I read someone smart say they think Ohman makes the O's and gets spun off at the trade deadline. I hope he sticks around just because his quotes will be fun to read. If he can get out the occasional lefty, all the better. Say, if we get rid of him mid-season, does that mean we hock a LOOGY?
If baseball doesn't start soon, I think I'm going to lose my mind.
Dorian G said in the previous post... Wake me up when this group learns how to win.....or at least not regress in the loss column!...
Hey Dorian, hope you don't mind if we just let you keep sleeping.
Long time reader, 1st time posting. I just wanted to say three things. 1. Thank you for all your hard work, I love reading your blog every single day. 2. I am super excited for this season of baseball, I get to watch every game on masn via a baseball package from my local cable in chicago. 3. I just watched highlights of the 83 series on MLB network, Im thinking 2010 series would be nice as well!!! Aim small, Miss small!!!!
Hi Roch,
Have you tried voice recognition software to get those interviews onto your laptop? Here's a link with some more information.

Comments from Patton
As for his mindset entering camp, Patton said he'll try to build innings and stay healthy. Same as last year.
"I want to have a full, healthy year and just pitch well," he said. "Doesn't matter what team I'm on. You guys know that."
ROCH....What did Patton mean
when he said, "Doesn't matter what team I'm on" ? Seems like a strange thing to say.
Craig that's awesome man. I hope its a reality!!!
I'm really excited to see if Moore conditioning brings him even more success in ST. Andino was okay, but I would like someone who can hit the ball! If Moore can be just as good as Andino defensively, please bring him in. I really want some good batters to add to the threat. In actuality, the O's need a backup to Tejada b/c he's unproven at third and it's supposedly going to take half the season plus to get used to that spot. I do not like the sound of that. No, no. If Moore is good to great defensively, bring him in! I don't know where Tejada would go, though. Some say in the DH role, but I think, hope Scott tears it up in that spot. There is got to be away for Scott to stay busy while sitting in the dugout waiting for his dh turn. If he can stay busy, perhaps he can be more ready for the hitting role.
Every time I hear about the ball coming out of someone's hand good, I want to go lay in front of a bulldozer. That said i would love to hear about the ball coming out of Bergy's hand good. When Trembley was on MASN the other day he acted like he barely knew anything about Bergy's condition other than they expect him to be ready by opening day. That's a lot of wiggle room and I'll be surprised if he is ready.
IMO,Josh Bell should start out at Bowie until he proves he can rake their pitching.
Here's my reasons Matuz and Tillman should start at AAA.
1. They need to build their innings up so they can pitch reguarly into the 6th/7th innings.
2.They need to work on chiselling their pitch counts down.
3.They need to refine their secondary pitches and pitching down in the zone.
4.If they start going 4 innings, they'll fry the bullpen and the relievers won't be available in games we can win.
5.April's schedule is rough and cold so if they bomb, they'll be sent down anyway.
6.Could be a blow to their confidencee if they bomb before they're ready.
7. Starting them out in the majors will be a blow to our depth which is already razor thin.
8.Berken and Hernandez deserve an oppurtunity to prove they learned from last year and are prepared to move forward.
So RichD is afforded all the personal cheap shots at me that he wants. But I can't say that based on the poor seasons Atkins and Miggy had last, they should report to ST early?

Do I have to go over the rules again? How many of your rips did I post yesterday? I'll answer that one for you - plenty. I can do fewer if you'd like. - Roch
Hey Steve,
I talked t a guy from tickets at fanfest. He said to give a call and ask for a 6 pack with opening day and he would hook me up. I'm calling this week, I will let you know what he says.
Yeah, they haven't announced the 6-packs yet but you can get them if you call the ticket office. They usually don't announce that they are availble on the website until March.
OCJ- thanks for the Saturday morning funnies! I am rooting for DT, but his overall cognitive skills give me pause because I would imagine there is some correlation to his sometimes baffling bullpen and in-game decisions. But hey, Terry Francona somehow won championships so why fret?
John- Good points overall. Tillman would really benefit from adding precision to his pitches and should stick in AAA for a couple months (short of blowing away folks during ST). I think Matusz is ready to take flight now. He doesn't seem the type that would be rattled by a few bad outings and unlike Tillman his control is on par with MLB. I don't want to see Berken in the rotation but Hernandez would not bother me. I still want another starter but it isn't happening at this point.
I don't get caught up in predicting 5 straight O's world series though I realize Stacey from CamdenChat was having a bit of fun. I'll be thrilled for months should we finish above the Yankees or Red Sox once for the first time in well over a decade.
I know some of you argue against the need for a big bat. The common response is that we have 7-8 guys capable of hitting 20 HRs. We have actually been in that situation for several years penciling in the stats of such studs as Wigginton, Gibbons, Bigbie, Mora, Javy Lopez, Ramon Hernandez, Segui, etc. It just doesn't pan out that way. Guys get hurt, some underperform. Crowley has rarely kept a team stroking for extended periods of time (talent?).
One has to PAY for highly reliable excellence and even then one is taking a risk. But as the saying goes, you pay for what you get. There is a far better chance that Holliday or Bay are successful this year than a guy like Atkins. Because of that, they are compensated at a far higher rate. Plus, are you more likely to get 25 HRs from a guy who usually hits 30+ or from a guy who has never hit over 18? One day soon I hope the O's spend money on a guy who has a great track record in his prime (Tejada qualified years ago but had no supporting cast). Belle was an absolutely piece of crap so I would never look to repeat that. MacPhail has done an amazing job of bringing in quality men.
But offseason is done. Time to put the 2009 offseason to bed as unspectacular as it was. I'm happy to switch into full support mode. Go baby Birds!
OCJ: I will also take Moore sight unseen over Wigginton at this point. If Wiggy can be traded for something nominally useful, so much the better. Moore has a lot to prove, and as a left-handed hitter, he's a useful sub for our righty infielders when they need days off.
