Nationals recall Balester from Triple-A Syracuse

The Washington Nationals today recalled right-handed pitcher Collin Balester from Syracuse of the Triple-A International League. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement. Balester is 1-1 with a 4.61 ERA in eight appearances this season with the Nationals. In 25 career relief appearances with Washington, Balester is 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA and a .234 batting average against. Balester, 25, went 2-1 with one save and a 4.35 ERA in 28 relief appearances with Syracuse in 2011, posting 46 strikeouts in 39.1 innings at Triple-A.
