Buck Showalter talks with the media about his ejection, the umpires and Arrieta's performance
Wilson, now 12-5, 3.02, went 8 2/3, allowing three hits with a career-high 12 strikeouts and one walk. He threw 118 pitches. There were seven O's called out on strikes tonight.
Brian Roberts doubled to lead off the last of the ninth. After Wilson got the next two outs, he was lifted for Neftali Feliz and the O's sent Luke Scott up to pinch hit for Ty Wigginton. Feliz got Scott to pop out on a 2-1 pitch to end the game as Texas evened the four-game series at a win each.
Jake Arrieta gave up eight hits and two runs, one earned, over 6 2/3 innings. It was his eighth quality start in 14 outings this year and the Orioles' 14th over the last 18 games.
But he came up a few outs short of giving the O's their fourth straight start of eight innings or more since 1999.
Texas took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Mitch Moreland solo homer, his third. He hit a 3-2 pitch just over the left-field wall. Moreland was 2 for 13 with seven strikeouts over his previous five games.
Texas made it 2-0 with an unearned run in the top of the seventh. Julio Borbon reached on a Cesar Izturis error with one out and later scored on a Josh Hamilton single for his 82nd RBI of the season.
The O's were shutout for the ninth time and have lost six of their last nine games.
The clubs play on Saturday afternoon at 4:10 in a game that will be televised on Fox.
