Eyre took the loss and this outing ended a run of eight consecutive scoreless outings for him dating to Sept. 1. Phillips had not given up a hit as an Oriole with runners in scoring position - holding opponents hitless in 13 at-bats - until Martinez singled to win the game. Alfredo Simon started and did not get a decision. He pitched eight innings, giving up six hits and three runs and throwing 105 pitches. Earlier, the Orioles scored on a Vladimir Guerrero RBI double in the first, a Nick Markakis sac-fly in the third and Matt Wieters' RBI single in the third. Guerrero went 2-for-4 on the night and now has 2,585 career hits. He needs one more to tie Julio Franco for most hits ever by a Dominican-born player. Over his last 18 games, Guerrero is batting .392 with two homers, 11 RBIs and 10 multi-hit games. The Orioles loss was just their third in the last 11 games and sixth in the last 17 games. The Orioles fall to 19-14 since Aug. 22 and 66-91 on the year. The Orioles fall to 4-2 on this eight-game road trip and are 4-4 this year against the Tigers. In the third game of this series on Saturday night, Jeremy Guthrie (9-17, 4.28) pitches for the Orioles against Justin Verlander (24-5, 2.29).
