Orioles lineup in Anaheim and notes

Ryan McKenna is playing center field tonight in the latest Orioles right-handed heavy lineup in Anaheim.

Austin Hays is the cleanup hitter and left fielder. Jordan Westburg is starting at second base. Jorge Mateo is the shortstop.

Aaron Hicks is in right field, with Anthony Santander serving as designated hitter.

Adley Rutchman is back in the leadoff spot and catching.

Gunnar Henderson is too good to sit in any lineup. He’s the third baseman.

Ryan Mountcastle is hitting .417 and slugging .861 against fastballs from left-handers compared to .221 and .287 against fastballs from right-handers, per STATS.

The Orioles have scored 368 runs on the road this year, third in the American League and fifth in the majors.

Dean Kremer finished the month of August with four consecutive quality starts, allowing six runs in 25 innings. He faced the Angels on May 16 at Camden Yards and allowed three runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings. Mickey Moniak homered in the first.

Kremer hasn’t allowed an extra-base hit on a non-fastball in his last two starts, per STATS.

The Orioles have registered a 3.62 ERA since July 1, third best in the majors behind Seattle (3.33) and Toronto (3.46). They’ve gone 38-19 during that span, the second-best record in the American League and third best in the majors.

The Orioles are a season-high 35 games above .500 and 3 ½ ahead of the second place Rays.  They’ve won three in a row, ninth of 12 and 23 of 33, and are on pace to win 101.

Last night’s victory guaranteed that the Orioles would go 84 series in a row without being swept, the third-longest streak in major league history. They also produced their 43rd comeback victory.

Manager Brandon Hyde became the fifth Orioles manager with 300 career wins.

Pitcher Austin Voth cleared waivers this afternoon and accepted his outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles designated Voth for assignment Sunday while activating Jorge López, who was claimed on waivers from the Marlins.

Left-hander Reid Detmers is 3-10 with a 5.01 ERA and 1.395 WHIP in 24 starts. He’s struck out 142 batters in 124 innings.

The Angels made Detmers the 10th-overall selection in the 2020 draft out of the University of Louisville. He’s faced the Orioles twice and allowed two runs and five hits in 11 innings.

Shohei Ohtani was scratched yesterday with oblique soreness.
