Jinx alert. About to write about the Orioles beating up on the Yankees this year and what it could mean. Those that believe in jinxes should probably check out right about now. But for the rest of you... The Orioles are 7-3 this season against the Yankees. If they win just three of the remaining nine games between these teams, the Orioles will take the season series from New York for the first time since 1997 when they went 8-4. The Orioles went 9-9 versus New York in 2007 and 2012. But they lost more than they won every other year since 1997.

The Orioles have won three straight three-game series over the Yankees. The Birds have won four (or more) consecutive three-game sets against the Yankees only three times in club history. The most recent came in 2007 when they won four. The longest three-game series win streak over New York in O's history is seven (June 15, 1965-July 8, 1969). The Orioles have outscored the Yankees 55-28 this season with a team batting average of .290, a .475 slugging percentage and an .808 OPS. The O's team ERA is 2.94 in the 10 games and the Yankees are batting just .242 versus O's pitching. O's leading hitters against New York: * Jonathan Schoop is batting .385 (10-for-26) with two doubles, three homers, 10 RBIs, an .808 slugging percentage and a 1.215 OPS. * Adam Jones is batting .357 (15-for-42) with three doubles, two homers and six RBIs. * Delmon Young is batting .375 (6-for-16) with a homer and three RBIs. The Orioles lead the majors with 150 home runs and are on pace to hit 206. The Birds have seven 200-homer seasons in club history (2013, 2012, 1999, 1998, 1996, 1987 and 1985), but have never done it in three straight years. The Orioles are 57-25 when they hit at least one homer. After beginning the season 19-21 at Camden Yards, the Orioles have posted a 14-5 record at home since June 30, recording a 2.78 ERA and holding opponents to a .226 average in that time. If the Orioles have to put Manny Machado on the disabled list today or if he has to miss any number of games, here is one vote for Chris Davis to get the bulk of the starts at third base. Some of this will depend on J.J. Hardy's health, but if and when Hardy gets back on the field, if Davis goes to third, Steve Pearce could start at first. Maybe some regular playing time will get Pearce's bat going. Over his last 12 games, he is batting just .100 (4-for-40) and he has not driven in a run over his last 16 games. He is batting just .162 (11-for-68) over his past 21 games. Pearce can't get out of his extended slump without some at-bats. Maybe this is Buck Showalter's opening to get him back in the lineup and maybe his bat will heat up again. What do you think the Orioles should do if they have to play for a time without Machado?
