Jeremy Guthrie came up with one of his best starts in what has been a frustrating season for him. But, Edwin Jackson pitched better. For the second time in five weeks, Jackson produced a dominant performance vs. the Orioles as the Tigers topped the Birds 4-2 on Wednesday night. Jackson took a two-hit shutout to the ninth, but hit Nolan Reimold leading off the inning and gave up a two-run homer to Adam Jones. He allowed just three hits, throwing 117 pitches. Jackson improves to 8-5, 2.62. Fernando Rodney came on to get the last three outs for his 22nd save. On May 31st in Baltimore, Jackson pitched eight scoreless innings of two-hit ball vs. the Birds. Guthrie allowed six hits and three runs in 7 1/3 innings to fall to 7-11, 5.28. Two of his runs scored after he left the game. Magglio Ordonez homered on a 1-0 Guthrie pitch in the last of the fifth for the game's first run. It's his 6th of the year. Placido Polanco's bloop two-run single in the 8th gave Detroit a 3-0 lead and Miguel Cabrera's RBI single made it a 4-0 lead. The O's have lost five of six and 12 of the last 16 games.
