When he came to bat in the fourth inning today, Orioles third baseman Mark Reynolds had already made two errors, giving him 18 on the year. He might have wanted to redeem himself and he did by hitting a solo homer 443-feet to left field. But he said he wasn't thinking about trying to turn around his day as he batted against Homer Bailey. "I can't think that way. I have struggled over there at third base, it's no secret," Reynolds said. "Just gotta stay focused and not carry my at bats into the field with me. Just keep going out there and making all the routine plays.

"I am working every day with Willie (Randolph) at it, trying to get better. But it's just one of those things I can't really explain. Hopefully I can be more consistent in the future and keep getting better." Reynolds was still scolding himself after the game for his throwing error in the third when he made a nice play on a shot off the bat of Jonny Gomes, but then short-hopped the throw. "It wasn't really that tough a play, just a short-hop line drive. Sometimes those plays are the toughest when you have all the time in the world to throw the ball over there. But that is still no excuse. My little brother can go out there and make that play," Reynolds said. This was the sixth time in his career he had a two-error game, with the most recent coming June 12 against Tampa Bay. But he was able to drive a pitch out of the park in the fourth for a 5-0 lead in a game the Orioles won 7-5 over Cincinnati. It gives him 14 homers and breaks the tie for the team lead he held with Adam Jones. "I think it was either a changeup or split that he kind of left out over the plate," Reynolds said. "He had been pounding me fastballs all day and I was a little out in front of it but I was able to get enough of it." Reynolds said the ball was really carrying during the three-game series that saw the Orioles out-homer the Reds 9-7. "I was real surprised last night. In April and May some of those balls would be caught at the track." he said. "It's really starting to carry here lately. Hopefully we can keep this nice weather going and keep hitting some balls in the air." Reynolds' homer came two batters after Derrek Lee's second homer of the series, a three-run shot. Reynolds said Lee's bat is coming to life and it's a real key for the O's lineup. "It's huge. He started out slow, then got hurt. But he is swinging the bat real well lately, probably as well as anybody on our team and he is a big guy in our lineup that we need to hit and he's doing that," Reynolds said.
