PITTSBURGH - Shortstop Tim Beckham classifies himself as "day-to-day" after sustaining a hamstring injury Saturday night at Camden Yards. He may have to sit out the Pirates series, but he isn't conceding the rest of the week.
Beckham felt the hamstring grab while running to first base in the ninth inning. J.J. Hardy started on Sunday afternoon, as planned, and Beckham remains on the bench for tonight's series opener against the Pirates.
"It's feeling all right," he said.
"My leg's been...
PITTSBURGH - Adam Jones is out of the Orioles lineup tonight due to soreness in his legs. Tim Beckham, who recently had a wisdom tooth extracted and suffered a hamstring injury, also is on the bench.
Austin Hays is playing center field and leading off.
Rule 5 pick Anthony Santander is in right field, making his first start since Aug. 19. Chance Sisco is behind the plate again.
Jonathan Schoop is batting second and Manny Machado is third.
Trey Mancini is batting .322 (19-for-59) with four...
The Orioles are down to the last five games. Where's their focus?
Wins still matter, no matter how the standings read. Don't try to sell them on the notion that 80-82 and 75-87 are the same in the grand scheme. That third place is insignificant if it doesn't come with an invitation to the wild card game.
The latest nosedive, with only four wins in 18 games, does present an opportunity to evaluate a few of the younger players before the final goodbyes. Austin Hays stays in the lineup, of...
A season that's never allowed the Orioles to straighten out their problems offers another weird twist this week. They get two off-days before heading home for the winter.
The Orioles are idle today, play two games in Pittsburgh and are idle again before a weekend series at Tropicana Field.
Tim Beckham will receive treatment today on his injured hamstring and the Orioles will determine whether he's day-to-day or needs to be shut down.
As the offseason moves along, they will decide whether...
J.J. Hardy placed his hand on the bill of his batting helmet today as the ovation grew louder and stronger, his feet still outside the batter's box. Rays pitcher Chris Archer, aware and respectful of the moment, stood between the mound and second base. The occupants of both dugouts lined the railings and applauded.
Always a player who shunned the spotlight, Hardy finally relented and waved to the crowd. No sense fighting it. May as well give in to it, soak it up like rays of sunshine and...
Shortstop J.J. Hardy embraced teammates Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop in right field while warming up before today's final home game of the 2017 season. Likely the last for Hardy in an Orioles uniform as free agency approaches.
It's an emotional day for Hardy and his teammates, and not only because the club has been eliminated from the wild card chase and can't finish .500.
It's gotten off to a bad start. Kevin Kiermaier homered on the first pitch from Chris Tillman, an 89 mph...
Orioles pitcher Dylan Bundy was scratched from today's start against the Rays due to a strained left hamstring. The club made the announcement about an hour before first pitch at Camden Yards
Chris Tillman will make the start to close out the last homestand of the 2017 season.
Bundy's status for next week is uncertain. The Orioles are off Monday and Thursday and make trips to Pittsburgh and St. Petersburg, Fla., for the final five games.
As the veterans inside the Orioles clubhouse try to put...
The Orioles have scratched Dylan Bundy from today's start against the Rays. Chris Tillman will take his place.
No reason has been given for the switch. The Orioles said they will provide more information later this afternoon.
Bundy is 13-9 with a 4.24 ERA in 28 starts over 169 2/3 innings. He would have been working on an extra day of rest.
Manager Buck Showalter chose Bundy after the right-hander had a good work day. They met yesterday in Showalter's office before batting practice.
Tillman...
Trey Mancini is leading off today, Chance Sisco is catching and J.J. Hardy is playing shortstop for the Orioles' final home game of the season.
Pedro Ãlvarez is the designated hitter.
For the Orioles Trey Mancini LF Manny Machado 3B Jonathan Schoop 2B Adam Jones CF Chris Davis 1B Austin Hays RF Pedro Ãlvarez DH J.J. Hardy SS Chance Sisco C

Update: Bundy has been scratched from his start and will be replaced by Chris Tillman.

The Orioles are playing their final home game of the 2017 season today, and shortstop J.J. Hardy is going to find his name in the lineup. Tim Beckham's hamstring injury isn't a factor. Hardy was expected to start anyway.
Don't let the moment go unnoticed if you're sitting in the stands. It's Fan Appreciation Weekend, but that sentiment can extend to a veteran player.
Lots of people in the organization are hoping that the crowd grasps the importance of Hardy's inclusion and what he's...
The Orioles won't post another winning record in 2017. They won't finish at .500. The last flicker of hope for a berth in the wild card game has disappeared.
The remaining goal is to stay out of last place and stay healthy.
Jeremy Hellickson retired the first eight batters he faced before surrendering a three-run homer to Lucas Duda in the third inning, the bullpen couldn't keep the game close and the Orioles' five-run rally in the ninth only narrowed the margin in a 9-6 loss to the Rays...
Kevin Gausman will start the first game against the Pirates on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh, the latest rotation revelation for the Orioles as they weigh all of their pitching options in the final week of the season.
Manager Buck Showalter said Wednesday was "a little up in the air."
"We've got on our board five options, depending on who we have to use out of the bullpen and some other things that go on there," Showalter said.
Miguel Castro isn't likely to get a start next week, mostly due...
Mark Trumbo is back in the Orioles lineup tonight as the designated hitter.
Austin Hays continues to play right field. Welington Castillo is catching.
Left-handers are hitting .216 against Tampa Bay right-hander Jake Odorizzi this season and .222 in his career. He's a reverse-splits guy and the lineups against him reflect it.
Adam Jones is 13-for-40 (.325) with a double and two home runs lifetime against Odorizzi. Jonathan Schoop is 8-for-24 (.333) with three doubles and a home run. Manny...
Orioles manager Buck Showalter sat Mark Trumbo for last night's game against the Rays and gave Chris Davis another start at first base. He's tried rest and repetition, but nothing has worked to ignite the two sluggers.
Time is fast running out.
Trumbo is 12-for-64 (.188) this month, including a current 0-for-16 stretch with seven strikeouts that's dropped his season average to .235. His .290 on-base percentage would be the lowest of his career, a hair worse than the .291 he posted with the...
Ubaldo Jiménez would like to get back two pitches thrown tonight in the second inning. Both of them 92 mph fastballs. Both ending up in bad locations.
Both causing a lot of pain.
One fastball was planted in the back of leadoff hitter Logan Morrison with the count 0-2. The other was launched to left field by Wilson Ramos for a grand slam.
If Jiménez was making his final Camden Yards start with the Orioles, as presumed, he went out in a blaze of gory.
Jiménez allowed six runs over three...
Jonathan Schoop credited his selection as Most Valuable Oriole to the consistency he's gained through hard work, and he vows to be an improved player in 2018.
He won't rest on the honor.
Schoop batted .295/.347/.536 with 23 doubles, 18 home runs and 54 RBIs in 86 games in the first half. He's batting .295/.332/.487 with 10 doubles, 14 home runs and 51 RBIs in 66 games since the break.
"Anytime you get an award, it's something special. It's nice," he said.
"I just want to get better and...
Tim Beckham returns to the Orioles lineup tonight, leading off and playing shortstop. Austin Hays drops to seventh as the right fielder.
Pedro Ãlvarez is the designated hitter against Rays right-hander Alex Cobb. Caleb Joseph is catching.
Ubaldo Jiménez has registered a 10.80 ERA and 2.057 WHIP in three starts against the Rays this season. He's allowed 14 runs and 13 hits, with 11 walks and four home runs, over 11 2/3 innings.
Logan Morrison is 6-for-14 with two doubles, one triple and...
Jonathan Schoop is assured of receiving votes this year for Most Valuable Player in the American League. In the meantime, he's being honored as the top player on his team.
Schoop has been chosen as the recipient of this year's Louis M. Hatter Most Valuable Oriole Award by members of the local media who cover the team on a regular basis. He will be recognized for his accomplishments in an on-field ceremony prior to Sunday's final home regular season game against the Rays.
Ballots aren't made...
The Orioles broke their streak tonight of consecutive innings without a run at 26. Busted it, jumped on it, grinded it in their heels.
Then they started a new one and relied on Gabriel Ynoa to make an early lead stand up.
Manny Machado hit a two-run homer to put the Orioles ahead just two batters into the bottom of the first inning and Ynoa pitched a career-high eight innings in a 3-1 victory over the Rays before an announced crowd of 14,967 at Camden Yards.
Trey Mancini contributed an RBI...
Is Ubaldo Jiménez making his last start tonight for the Orioles?
This isn't a question regarding 2018. The Orioles won't re-sign Jiménez as a free agent. I have no idea what kind of offers he's going to field over the winter, but this team won't jump into the bidding.
The rotation over the remaining eight games is mostly a riddle. The only confirmed starter moving forward is right-hander Jeremy Hellickson, who takes the mound on Saturday against his former team.
Kevin Gausman will get...
