Chris Davis becomes second-fastest Oriole to 25 homers as O's take series in Detroit

Well, it was not a bad last 24 hours for the Orioles. They beat Justin Verlander and Rick Porcello and took another series win against the first-place Detroit Tigers. The Orioles scored six runs in the fourth today, added three in the seventh and four in the ninth in a 13-3 win over Detroit. That is a season high in runs for the O's. The Orioles are 12-5 this season against the American League division leaders - Boston (5-2), Detroit (4-2) and Oakland (3-1). The Orioles have moved 11 games over .500 for the first time in 2013. The Orioles' six-run fourth matched their biggest inning of the year and featured a Chris Davis two-run homer, a Taylor Teagarden three-run shot and Manny Machado RBI single. Once again, Davis was in the middle of the scoring. He went 3-for-5 with two homers and five RBIs. Over his last nine games, Davis is 13-for-36 with six homers and 14 RBIs. His first homer today was his major league-leading 25th. Davis is the second-fastest Oriole to hit 25 homers, doing that in the 73rd team game. Brady Anderson hit his 25th in the O's 69th game of the 1996 season. Davis has hit four homers in his last four games, six in the last eight and has four this year in six games against Detroit. Today was his fifth career multi-homer game. Nate McLouth went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles as every O's starter had at least one hit and every starter but Travis Ishikawa scored a run. McLouth stole his 24th base in the seventh inning to set a career high. Adam Jones added three RBIs Chris Tillman had inconsistent command and ran up a high pitch count early in the game. He went five innings plus two batters, giving up seven hits and three runs. He got the win and is 8-2 with an ERA of 3.71. Over his last four starts, Tillman is 4-0 with an ERA of 2.25. In seven road starts on the season, he is 6-0 with an ERA of 2.76. Verlander and Porcello pitched a combined 11 innings the last two games, allowing 16 hits, 11 runs and four homers to the Orioles. The Orioles lead the majors in series wins and are now 16-6-2. Now, after Thursday's off day, it is off to Toronto for the 42-31 Birds, who have won eight of their last 11 games and are 19-10 the last 29 games.
